The Western Slopes shrine sits broken in the Briar Sloughs, one of 17 damaged shrines Brencis ordered stripped of their idols. Until you put its heart back, it does nothing — no fast travel, no perks, no storage, no waiting. The fix is short, and the whole thing is really one fight and one interaction.
Quick answer: Clear the bandit camp near Briar Straight, loot the chest holding the Western Slopes Shrine’s Heart, then carry it to the ruined shrine and press the interact prompt to restore it.
Western Slopes shrine and Shrine’s Heart locations
Both points sit close together in the forest, so you can handle the quest in a single trip regardless of which one you stumble onto first.
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Destroyed shrine | Briar Sloughs, southwest of Stelian’s Redoubt, past the forest |
| Western Slopes Shrine’s Heart | In a chest at the bandit camp in the forest near Briar Straight, a short run from the shrine |
| Quest document | Same chest — “Brencis’s Orders – Root Out Old Superstition” |

Reading “Brencis’s Orders – Root Out Old Superstition” in the bandit camp chest starts Destroyed Shrines: Western Slopes on the spot. Since the heart is in that same chest, you finish the quest almost immediately after triggering it.
The other route is the shrine itself. Walk up to the ruins and inspect them, and the quest starts there instead. With it active, hold L2/LT for Focus Mode to reveal the thief’s footprints, which lead back to the same bandit camp.
Clear the bandit camp and take the Shrine’s Heart

Restore the shrine and confirm it worked

You know it took when the quest closes out in the journal, the Shrine’s Heart leaves your inventory, and the Western Slopes icon on the map turns from gray to blue. From that point the shrine works like any other, so you can fast travel to it, spend points on perks, reach your storage, and pass time.
If the shrine still refuses to work, the cause is almost always that you never picked up the heart. Go back to the camp chest, or hold L2/LT at the shrine and follow the footprints until they end at whoever is carrying it.
The time cost of restoring a shrine
Placing the heart advances the clock by one time unit. That matters because the main story runs on a day countdown to save Coen’s family, and other quests can have their own timed windows. If something time-sensitive is already in progress, restore the shrine after you have dealt with it, not before.
Loot from the Western Slopes bandit camp
The camp is worth stripping properly, mostly for the two skill manuals and the amulet.
| Type | Items |
|---|---|
| Skill manuals | Master Fencer Manual, Swiftness Manual |
| Gear | Knight’s Amulet, Broken Armour |
| Consumables | Bilberry, Transylvanian White Wine, Mead, Minor Aetheric Attunement |
| Misc | Denarius, Shovel, Torch, Needle, Old Fishing Net |
Western Slopes is one of the easier restorations in Vale Sangora, since the heart is sitting in a chest rather than on a corpse down a chasm or inside a bear. Knocking it out early gives you a usable travel point in the middle of the Briar Sloughs, which saves a lot of running later.
