Two of the more useful early pickups in The Blood of Dawnwalker sit on the same handful of enemies. A small bandit group in the swamps carries both a Swordmastery manual and a healing recipe, so one short detour hands Coen a new damage perk and a craftable regeneration item.
Quick answer: Kill the three bandits at Briar Sloughs Watchtower, south of Lasley Glen, then loot the bodies. One drops the Precision Manual, another drops the Recipe for Regenerative Salve.
Briar Sloughs Watchtower location in Blood of Dawnwalker
The watchtower sits in Briar Sloughs, directly south of Lasley Glen. Open the map, move the cursor onto the Briar Sloughs tower marker, and set it as your tracked objective so the waypoint stays on screen while you cross the swamp.

Three bandits patrol the ground around the tower. There is no puzzle or trigger involved here, and no quest has to be active. Clear the camp and everything you need is on the corpses.

Note: neither drop is guaranteed to sit on the same bandit every time you play, so check all three bodies before leaving the camp.
How to unlock the Precision perk from the manual
Picking up the manual does not grant the perk. Manuals are books Coen reads to make a perk available for purchase in the development tree, and you still pay for it with skill points afterwards.

You know it worked when Precision appears as a selectable node in the Swordmastery tree instead of a locked entry. If it is missing, the manual is still sitting unread in your inventory.
Precision perk effect and upgrade nodes
Precision rewards varied swordplay. It increases the damage of directional attacks as long as you do not repeat the same direction back to back, so alternating your attack inputs keeps the bonus active.
| Node | Listed value |
|---|---|
| Precision (first node) | +10% Damage |
| Second node | +10% Stamina Cost |
| Third node | +20% Damage |
Regenerative Salve ingredients and effect
Learning the recipe adds Regenerative Salve to the crafting menu permanently. It is a human-side consumable, so it belongs to Coen’s daytime kit rather than his vampiric one.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Ingredients | 1 Linseed Oil, 2 Common Yarrow, 2 Yellow Sweet Clover |
| Effect | 2.5% human health regeneration per second |
| Duration | 15 seconds |
| Consumed | Day |
All three ingredients are common herbs and oils, so the salve is cheap to keep stocked once you have the recipe. Be careful not to confuse it with the Minor and Potent versions, which use different ingredients and are sold separately by Medics.
Other ways to get the Precision Manual
If you skipped the watchtower or already spent your copy, the manual can also be bought. It is a Master rarity book that costs 92, and several Swordmastery vendors stock it.
| Seller | Location and requirement |
|---|---|
| Ursul | Northeast of Knyaz’s Road Shrine. Free him during Ambrus’s Prisoners: Lucky Crossing, then beat him in a duel |
| Blacksmith | Svartrau City, The Cathedral Complex |
| Drogos | Svartrau City, Silberstein, during the Manumit questline |
Vendor stock is partly randomised, so a merchant who sells Precision on one save may not offer it on another. Manuals also drop at random from soldiers and bandits across Vale Sangora, which means there is no hard cap on how many you can collect.
Clearing the watchtower early is worth the trip mainly because it front-loads two different systems at once. Precision pushes you toward mixing up directional attacks in every fight, while the salve gives you a steady heal that ticks through a fifteen second window instead of a single burst, which suits longer daytime duels where you cannot fall back on Coen’s vampiric abilities.
