Onimusha: Way of the Sword — Every Fine Silk Cloth Location

Every Fine Silk Cloth in the game, including the 18 you have to hunt down and the seven the story hands you.

Fine Silk Cloth is the material that gates Musashi’s clothing upgrades, and there are exactly 25 of them in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. That number is not generous — the full set is consumed by maxing out clothing enhancements and the default Hozuki Pouch, which is why the Dressed to Kill trophy quietly depends on finding every last one.

Quick answer: 18 Fine Silk Cloths are collectible — mostly chests scattered around Kyoto, plus a handful tied to side content and five Hidden Treasure chance encounters — and the remaining seven are handed to you automatically as you clear main story missions.

How the 25 Fine Silk Cloths are split

The split matters because it changes how much work you actually have to do. Seven cloths arrive on their own as story rewards, so you can ignore those entirely. The other 18 are the real checklist.

SourceCount
Chests in Kyoto and other explorable areas11
Hidden Treasure chance encounters (No. 1–5)5
Mysteries of Kyoto and Ace Archer side content2
Main story mission rewards (automatic)7

Nothing here is missable in the traditional sense. Every collectible stays reachable right up until you accept the final mission, “The Clash at Rendaino,” which permanently closes free roam. Even after the credits, picking Continue from the main menu drops you back just before the finale with everything intact.

Buy Oni Vision: Treasures before you start hunting

Three Special Skills turn this from a grind into a walk. Unlock Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2, and Oni Vision: Search Range at the Spirit Mirror as early as you can afford them, and hold off spending Oni Stones on anything else until they are yours.

With all three active, hold L2/LT and tap R2/RT while you move. Nearby chests light up through walls, including the ones tucked behind fences, inside attics, or under buildings. Without them, most Fine Silk Cloth chests are simply invisible as you run past.

The map is the second half of the system. Highlighting a treasure icon lets you set a marker, which is far more reliable than eyeballing rooftops from street level.

Fine Silk Cloth chests in Kyoto (#1–#8)

The first eight sit in ordinary chests around the city and its outskirts. None require a quest trigger — set a marker, walk over, open the chest. The landmark next to each one is the fastest way to confirm you are in the right spot.

#Where the chest sits
1Inside a small wooden shed in Kyoto
2Behind a building near a shrine, beside a Buddha statue
3In a courtyard, next to a decorative tree
4Indoors, inside a shop-style building
5In a small wooden shack near the bridge and river
6Near the Ace Archer: Mount Oe marker — enter the building and climb the ladder to the upper floor
7By the shrine and market area, next to a stack of barrels
8Behind a wooden fence beside a thatched-roof house

Number 6 is the one people walk past. The chest is not on the ground floor, so you have to go inside and take the ladder up before Oni Vision will do you any good.

Fine Silk Cloth #9 and #10: Side content rewards

Two cloths are payouts rather than pickups, so no amount of scanning will reveal them.

Fine Silk Cloth #9 comes from finishing “The Blessed Man,” one of the eight Mysteries of Kyoto. Track down the Strange Man, speak with him, and the cloth arrives alongside a New Charm when the mystery resolves.

Fine Silk Cloth #10 is the reward for the “Ace Archer: Nijo-Jo Castle” chance encounter. Talk to the man at the marker to begin it, then finish the encounter to collect.

Note: Mysteries of Kyoto and Chance Encounters both reset in New Game Plus, so these two cannot be carried over from an earlier run.

Hidden Treasure chance encounters (#11–#15)

Five cloths are locked behind the Hidden Treasure chance encounters. Each one follows the same loop: find the NPC, take the Old Drawing they hand over, read the clue written on the back, then go dig out the chest. The chests only become relevant once the matching encounter is active, so speak to the NPC first.

Head to the Hidden Treasure marker on your map and talk to the NPC standing there. They hand you the numbered Old Drawing and the encounter goes live in your log.
Check the drawing in your inventory. The line on the back is the actual directions — it names the landmark, not the exact chest.
Travel to the landmark and open the Hidden Oni Treasure chest. Each one contains an Oni Treasure along with the Fine Silk Cloth.
ClothDrawing clue and where it points
#11“At the top of Kiyomizu-zaka Slope” — climb the ladders up to a rooftop chest
#12“Where the Buddhas overlook the flow” — the chest is tucked behind the waterfall against the rock wall
#13“At the temple where dragons soar” — chest sits in the courtyard
#14“The mountain temple of the dead” — chest waits on the temple balcony
#15“The highest place in the capital” — climb through the Yasaka Pagoda interior to the top roof

Hidden Treasure No. 4 is the one worth marking before you set out, since the balcony chest is easy to run under without noticing.

Hidden Treasure No. 5 is the most valuable stop of the five. It starts by speaking with Takamura, and the chest at the top of the Yasaka Pagoda holds Skeleton Hozuki #5 as well — the last piece you need for the Medical Marvel pouch upgrades. Fast travel to the Yasaka Pagoda Spirit Mirror and climb from there rather than approaching from the streets.

Fine Silk Cloth #16–#18: Outside Kyoto

The final three collectible cloths sit in later, more linear areas. All three are plain chests, so Oni Vision will pick them up as you pass.

#Area and chest position
16Underground Laboratory, Underground Level 3 — in a wooden corridor
17Arashiyama, Swamp — near a campfire past the boggy stretch
18Shannaoh Castle, Second Layer — inside the red-misted cavern section

What Fine Silk Cloth is spent on

Everything is spent at the Spirit Mirror, which unlocks during “The Oni’s Apprentice” mission. Open the Equipment Enhancement tab, highlight the item you want, and the required materials are listed there.

Clothing is the big consumer. It takes one Fine Silk Cloth at Level 6, then chunks of two, three, and four cloths at each Proficiency step, plus one per level across Proficiency Level 4’s upper tiers. The default Hozuki Pouch eats two more, one for its Level 2 upgrade and one for Level 3.

Added up, the demand matches the supply almost exactly. There is no meaningful surplus, and no way to farm more, so a single missed chest can stall your last clothing enhancement.

How to confirm you have all 25

The clearest check is the Spirit Mirror itself. If clothing and the Hozuki Pouch can both be pushed to their maximum levels without a shortfall on Fine Silk Cloth, you have collected the full set — and the Dressed to Kill trophy pops once all equipment sits at max.

If a cloth is missing, it is almost always one of these:

  • You never bought the Oni Vision skills, so an indoor or fenced-off chest never showed up.
  • A Hidden Treasure encounter was never started, so its Old Drawing and chest are still inactive.
  • “The Blessed Man” mystery or the Ace Archer: Nijo-Jo Castle encounter is sitting unfinished in your log.
  • You started New Game Plus expecting the chance encounter rewards to carry over. They do not — those reset.

The practical move is to keep a manual save at the point of no return warning before “The Clash at Rendaino.” From there you can sweep Kyoto, Arashiyama, the Underground Laboratory, and Shannaoh Castle with Oni Vision running, mop up any Hidden Treasure encounters still open, and go into the finale with your clothing already maxed.
