The Blood of Dawnwalker: Where Loyalty Lies Walkthrough

Everything needed to join the Manumits, track the missing scouts, and survive the ambush that ends the quest.

Where Loyalty Lies is the quest that turns Coen from a lone troublemaker into an actual member of the Manumits. It picks up after Shadows in the Woods, gates itself behind your standing with the Court, and ends with a dead scout, a name nobody wants to say out loud, and three soldiers trying to kill you in an alley.

Quick answer: Raise your Infamy to Notorious (Level IV), then walk to Svartrau Plaza during the day to meet Sara, follow her to Crake, search the pink-facade house in Neustadt, follow the blood trail into the Middens, drop into the warehouse through the roof, talk to the dying scout Boyan, and kill the soldiers who ambush you.

Where Loyalty Lies quest requirements and rewards

The quest becomes available at Boar’s Back once Shadows in the Woods is done, but it will not move an inch until your Infamy is high enough. It is not missable, and it can be worked on during both day and night, though the opening meeting is daylight-only.

The five segments are not spent all at once. Meeting Sara and reaching the hideout costs one, searching the pink house costs one, and checking on the missing scouts costs three.

How to reach Notorious Infamy (Level IV)

Infamy sits in the Court tab of the menu, and Notorious is the fourth tier. You raise it by hitting Brencis’ vassals where it hurts. The fastest route early on is Ambrus’ territory, since his content is scaled for low-level Coen.

Clear Court Activities in Ambrus’ region, wipe out his Soldier Camps, and break up his transports and collector camps. Notes dropped at those locations tend to open up further objectives. If Ambrus alone is not enough, moving on to Bakir’s operations pushes the meter the rest of the way, though the enemies there hit considerably harder.

Note: check the Court tab before every trip to Svartrau. If the plaza cutscene does not fire, Infamy is almost always the reason.

Meet Sara and get voted into the Manumits

Open the map and set your marker on Svartrau Plaza, then travel there while it is still daylight. The objective in the journal reads “Head to Svartrau Plaza by daylight,” and arriving at night simply does nothing.

Walk into the plaza to trigger the cutscene with Sara. She tells you to stay close and immediately starts moving, so follow her through the alleys and keep off the guards’ patrol paths.
Sara leads you into a weaver’s shop. Speak to the trader inside, who points you downstairs to the basement.

Head into the basement to meet Crake and the rest of the Manumits. Crake calls a vote on whether to let you in. The group votes Aye, with Drogos the lone Nay, and you are in regardless.
Crake walks you past Loyos, a prisoner they have been working over for lying about the missing scouts, then gives you the job. Run through the conversation with “I’m ready,” “Who is he?,” “Fine, let’s talk details,” “What was the scout’s mission?,” and “All clear. I’m on it.”

The journal updates to “Seek out the house with the pink facade in Neustadt.” Head back upstairs to leave the building. This is a good moment to swap armor and rings, since the quest ends in a fight.

Search the pink house in Neustadt

Travel to Neustadt, in the southeastern part of Svartrau City, and find the house with the pink facade. It is the only building painted that way on the street, so it is hard to miss once you are in the district.
Go inside and climb to the attic. The scouts were using it as a lookout post, and it is the only room that matters here.
Turn on Focus Mode and inspect the highlighted clues. Arrows are scattered across the floor, and there is a Crumpled Note to pick up while you are looking around.
Interact with the attic window to spot the blood trace on the sill. That is what flips the objective over to “Follow the blood trail.”

Follow the blood trail to the Middens warehouse

Leave the house and inspect the blood near the wooden wagon parked outside. This anchors the trail and gives you a direction to work from.
Keep Focus Mode active and follow the marks north along the street. The trail runs out of the city through the western pathway, past a broken cart worth inspecting on the ground.
Continue west into the Middens. The trail dead-ends at a warehouse whose front door is locked, and the objective changes to finding a way inside.

Get inside the locked warehouse

Walk around to the right side of the warehouse. There is a cart parked against the wall with crates and wooden scaffolding stacked above it.
Climb the cart, then the crates and scaffolding, until you are standing on the roof. Coen handles this without any special ability, though Shadowstep at night makes it quicker.
Find the opening in the roof and drop through it. You land inside the bloodied interior, where the bodies of the missing Manumit scouts are waiting. There are chests here worth looting before you move on.
Inspect the bodies, then leave through the front door, which opens from the inside.

Talk to Boyan, then survive the ambush

Outside the warehouse you find Boyan, badly wounded and propped against a barrel. Talk to him and work through the dialogue. He describes something fast and winged called Teotim that is building an army, then dies mid-sentence.

Brencis’ soldiers turn up seconds later to finish the job. It is a small group, roughly three enemies, and a straightforward directional-block fight. Kill them and the quest closes out.

If all four scouts are already dead when you reach them, the objective changes instead. You will be sent to find an item that lets Coen pull words out of a corpse, and the warning about Teotim comes from the body rather than a survivor.

How to confirm the quest completed

The moment the last soldier drops, Where Loyalty Lies is marked complete and 150 XP lands. What Hunts the Night starts immediately after, with a single objective in the journal reading “Report back to Crake,” which sends you back to the basement hideout under the weaver’s shop.

If the quest appears stuck, the cause is nearly always one of three things. Your Infamy has not reached Notorious, you are at the plaza at night instead of during the day, or you never interacted with the attic window in the pink house, which is the specific action that unlocks the blood trail.

Five time segments is a meaningful chunk of a 30-day clock, so it is worth clearing nearby Court Activities on the same trip into Svartrau rather than making a dedicated run for the plaza and nothing else.
