Five Hidden Treasures are scattered across Eastern Kyoto, and each one sits behind a Chance Encounter that only starts after you talk to a specific NPC and receive an Old Drawing. The drawing is a rough picture with an X, and the map marker it hands you covers a wide area rather than the precise spot. The chest stays invisible until you stand in the right place and use Oni Vision.
Quick answer: Travel to the listed Spirit Mirror for each treasure, reach the exact landmark shown in the Old Drawing (often a rooftop, waterfall, wall, or balcony), clear nearby Genma, then activate Oni Vision to make the chest appear.
How Hidden Treasure Chance Encounters unlock
Each treasure is tied to its own Chance Encounter, and none of them can be reached before that quest is active. Once you accept a Hidden Treasure quest, the NPC gives you an Old Drawing that points to a landmark somewhere in Eastern Kyoto. The map marker only narrows the search area, so getting close is not enough. You have to identify the object in the picture and line up your exact position before the chest will reveal itself.
The Hidden Treasures unlock in a fixed order as the story progresses. The table below shows the story mission that makes each Chance Encounter available.

Note: Chance Encounter progress does not carry over into New Game+, so finish these before the point of no return ahead of the final mission if you are aiming for full completion.
Hidden Treasure No. 1 – Kiyomizu-zaka Slope rooftop
The X on this drawing points to a rooftop, not the street below, so searching at ground level does nothing. Fast travel to the Kiyomizu-zaka Slope Spirit Mirror and look for the nearby alley.
Hidden Treasure No. 2 – Waterfall near Yasaka Pagoda
The Old Drawing here shows three clues, which are Yasaka Pagoda, a ladder, and a waterfall. The picture is unclear, so use those landmarks rather than the image itself.
Hidden Treasure No. 3 – Kamo River temple wall
This drawing shows an X on a gate next to a tall wall, and the trick is that you search from inside the wall, not outside the building. The marker leads to a large Genma-filled temple near the Kamo River – East Spirit Mirror.
Hidden Treasure No. 4 – Gojo Street shrine balcony
This one is tucked off the main route near the Gojo Street – East Spirit Mirror, in a zone that is almost always crawling with Genma. Clearing enemies first makes positioning much easier.
Hidden Treasure No. 5 – Upper Yasaka Pagoda rooftop
The final treasure is the easiest to locate because the drawing points straight at Yasaka Pagoda. The catch is that the chest sits on the upper exterior rooftop, not on any interior floor.

How to confirm the treasure was found
When you are standing in the correct spot, the Oni Vision pulse reaches the right position and the hidden chest becomes visible. An interaction prompt then lets Musashi open it and collect the contents, and the linked Chance Encounter registers as complete. If you are tracking progress, check the individual Chance Encounter entry rather than the main HUD objective, since other quests can be active at the same time.
Tip: If you have unlocked the Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2, and Oni Vision: Search Range special skills, hold the aim input and repeatedly pulse Oni Vision while exploring so the chest is easier to surface.
Why a Hidden Treasure won’t appear
If you are inside the marked circle but nothing reveals, the problem is almost always your exact position, not the quest. The Old Drawings are intentionally rough, so read the landmark instead of trying to match the whole picture. The most common reasons a chest stays hidden are below.

Once you treat each Old Drawing as a landmark puzzle rather than a precise map, all five Hidden Treasures come down to reaching the right elevation and side of a building before a single Oni Vision pulse.
