Fisch: How to Get Golden Shrimp Bait on Treasure Island

Golden Shrimp Bait is one of the few items in Fisch that guarantees a mutation. Every fish caught with it comes out Golden, which doubles the value, and it stacks large luck bonuses on top. The catch is the price tag and the fact that it sits behind a location most players never visit by accident.

Quick answer: Buy Golden Shrimp Bait for 50,000 C$ each from the “Some Guy That Sells Comically Overpriced Baits” NPC (Lars) on Treasure Island, which you reach by using a Traveler’s Whistle.

What you need before buying Golden Shrimp Bait

Treasure Island is not on the regular travel network. Access runs through the Traveler’s Whistle, which a traveling merchant sells for 250,000 cash. If you already own the whistle, you can skip straight to the teleport.

On top of the whistle, budget 50,000 C$ per bait. Buying in bulk is common, and a full stack of 100 runs 50,000 C$ per unit at the same vendor, so plan your cash reserve before making the trip.

How to reach Treasure Island and buy the bait

Get a Traveler’s Whistle. It is sold by the traveling merchant for 250,000 cash, and it is the only tool that opens the route to Treasure Island.
Equip the whistle and use it, then pick Treasure Island from the destination options. You will be teleported directly to the island’s spawn point.

From the spawn point next to the giant pile of gold, follow the path downhill. The route is short and does not branch off in a confusing way.

Look for the NPC standing beside a wooden table. He is named “Some Guy That Sells Comically Overpriced Baits”, also known as Lars, who additionally appears at the Personal Aquarium.

Talk to him and purchase the bait at 50,000 C$ each. Buy as many as your balance allows, since a return trip means using the whistle again.
Open your Equipment Bag, switch to the Baits tab, and equip Golden Shrimp Bait before casting. The bait does nothing while it sits unequipped in your inventory.

You will know the purchase worked when the bait appears under the Baits tab with the description “A golden shrimp bait. Very shiny.” Once equipped, its stat lines show in the same menu.

Golden Shrimp Bait stats and Golden mutation

Golden Shrimp Bait is classified as Secret rarity. Its headline effect is the guaranteed Golden mutation, which applies a 2x multiplier to the catch. The luck values apply to every cast that uses the bait, with Preferred Luck only counting for fish that favor it.

StatValue
RaritySecret
Preferred Luck150%
Universal Luck150%
Resilience10%
Lure Speed15%
Ability100% chance for Golden (2x)

Four fish prefer Golden Shrimp Bait, so the Preferred Luck line is narrow in practice. Goldfin Octopus and Gem Blobfish both live at Treasure Island itself, Glaciaseer Sturgeon appears at Everturn Forest during rainy winter nights, and Grandpa Horseshoe Crab shows up at Desolate Deep in spring.

Note: The bait was reclassified from Mythical to Secret in version 1.88.0, which also raised Preferred Luck from 120% to 150%, Universal Luck from 90% to 150%, and added the guaranteed Golden ability. Older stat listings that show 120% and 90% predate that change.

Other ways to obtain Golden Shrimp Bait

Buying from Lars is the reliable route, but the Merchant Rod’s passive ability can also produce Golden Shrimp Bait. That is a chance-based source rather than something you can farm on demand, so treat it as a bonus and not a substitute for the 50,000 C$ purchase.

When the 50,000 C$ price is worth paying

The bait pays for itself only when the fish you are targeting is valuable enough that doubling it clears the cost. Players consistently point to high-value catches during an Aurora as the case where the math works, particularly the Diamond Daisy, paired with a strong mutation rod and Angler’s Gloves for bait preservation.

Angler’s Glove is worth calling out separately. It grants a 50% chance to preserve bait plus 10% Bait Effectiveness, which directly cuts how often you burn a 50,000 C$ item on a single cast. Resourceful Rod goes further at 60% preservation and +100% Effectiveness.

If your best money rod is still mid-tier, the bait is a losing trade. Community consensus is to hold off until you own something in the endgame money bracket before spending on stacks of it.

One practical failure mode worth avoiding: buying the bait and then fishing somewhere the Golden multiplier does not meaningfully change the payout. The mutation doubles value, so the fish has to be expensive to begin with. Equip the bait, confirm you are in the right location and weather window for a high-value target, and only then start casting.
