The Lost Recipe Book is one of the shortest paying side chains in The Veil, and it hands out a free weapon at a point in the game where most players are still swinging whatever the maze dropped. There is no monster to farm and no rare spawn to wait for. The book is a purchased quest item, so the entire chain comes down to knowing which tree to walk into and having enough silver in your pocket.

Quick answer: Start at the Tinkerer’s Workshop, follow the marked path through the swamp forest, enter the hollow tree trunk to reach Bigma, pay 50 silver for Hitachi’s Recipe Book, then take it back to Hitachi at the food shop and pay 250 silver to close the quest.

Silver and items to bring before you leave

Both payments happen inside the quest, and the second one is the larger of the two. Turning up with only enough silver for the book means walking the route twice, so budget for the full amount before you set off.

Note: the book cannot drop from an enemy. If you are hunting for it in the maze, you are wasting a night — it only exists as a purchase from Bigma.

Route from the Tinkerer’s Workshop to Bigma

Position yourself at the Tinkerer’s Workshop, the building marked “Now open for business!” This is the anchor point for the whole run, and every turn below assumes you are facing outward from it.

Follow the trail out of the workshop area and into the green swamp forest. White directional arrows painted on the ground mark the path, so keep them under your feet rather than cutting across the terrain.

Look for a large hollow tree trunk along the path and walk straight into the opening. The interior is where Bigma stands, and the “Interact (E)” prompt appears once you are close enough.

Speak to Bigma and work through the dialogue until the purchase option appears. Paying 50 silver puts Hitachi’s Recipe Book straight into your inventory.

Returning the book to Hitachi

Head back the way you came and find Hitachi at the food shop. He is the quest giver, and the book has no other use, so do not sell or trade it on the way.

Interact with Hitachi and choose the option that hands over Hitachi’s Recipe Book. The prompt then asks for a further 250 silver, and paying it completes the exchange and releases the weapon reward.

How to confirm the quest is finished

You know it worked when the book leaves your inventory and the weapon arrives in its place. The quest closes at that moment, and there is no follow-up step or return trip to Bigma.

Two things stop the chain from completing. The first is not carrying enough silver for the second payment, which leaves you holding the book with the exchange stuck open. The second is skipping the conversation with Hitachi before attempting the hand-in — speak to him first, then give over the book.

Costs and reward wording that shifted between builds

The Veil is still in beta, and the numbers on this chain have moved. Launch-week runs recorded the book at 10 silver with a 100 silver hand-in, filed under the Anelace NPC in Verdant Hollow, while later runs show the 50 and 250 silver figures above. Read the live NPC prompt before accepting; the price on screen is the one you pay.

The reward has been described both as a legendary weapon and as a rare one, with a regeneration effect on equip and a listed 10 base damage and 7 critical in one recorded build. Some players call it a Keyblade-style weapon. Whatever the rarity colour reads in your session, check the tooltip and its regeneration line before spending gems or silver on upgrading it.

For a short chain with no combat gate, the payoff holds up well past the point where you get it. A weapon that restores health while you fight is genuinely useful on long maze runs, and it costs you a walk through the swamp and a few hundred silver rather than a boss kill.
