Halloween: The Game Chapter 2 Challenge 4 Guide (Temple Stab Eric)

Exact stalk tier, grab window, and execution spot needed to finish the fourth Main Street challenge.

Chapter 2 of Halloween: The Game drops Michael into Main Street with six challenges attached, and the fourth one is the fussiest of the opening batch. It reads “Temple Stab Eric in the hardware store stockroom,” and it fails for one boring reason more than any other: players kill Eric in the wrong place, or with the wrong tier of stalk behind them.

Quick answer: Build Eric up to Tier 3 Stalk in Killer Sense, grab him with the Tier 3 Townsfolk Grab, carry him back into the hardware store stockroom, and push him against the brick pillar by the shelving until the Temple Stab execution prompt appears.

Chapter 2 Challenge 4 requirements and rewards

The challenge sits inside Main Street, the chapter that introduces Killer Sense and the stalk tier system. Fully stalking Eric is flagged as optional for story progress, but it is mandatory here, because the contextual execution you need is gated behind the Tier 3 grab.

Note: the prompt on screen reads Temple Stab, and it fires at the stockroom pillar next to the blue shelves. Positioning against that prop is what the challenge tracks, not the weapon you happen to be carrying.

How to complete the Temple Stab on Eric

Get inside the hardware store and take the mask from the aisle display on the left. The prompt reads Take Mask and costs 050 EP, and picking it up triggers the cutscene where Michael masks up and arms himself.
Once control returns, press the middle mouse button to enter Killer Sense. The tutorial prompt spells this out, and Killer Sense is the only mode that builds stalk tiers on Eric.

Keep Eric in view from behind the store shelves, or through the window if he has already moved outside. Line of sight is what fills the meter, so hold the angle instead of closing distance.

Hold the stalk until the meter reads Tier 3, shown on screen as Super Stalk. Anything below that leaves you with a weaker grab and no access to the contextual kill.

Follow Eric out into the alley and grab him from behind with the Tier 3 Townsfolk Grab. He will be outlined in red once he is held, and the HUD switches to Grabbed Resident.

Walk him back inside to the stockroom without releasing him. Do not execute in the alley or anywhere on the shop floor, because the challenge only counts a kill performed inside the stockroom.
Push Eric flat against the brick pillar next to the blue shelving until the Execute prompt changes to Temple Stab, then trigger it. The animation plays out against the prop and the challenge registers on the kill.

How to confirm the challenge registered

Two things happen the moment the execution lands. The HUD flashes ERIC KILLED, and the objective immediately updates to PICK UP AND HIDE ERIC’S BODY, pointing you at the marked dumpster outside.

Confirmation for the challenge itself shows up as a completion pop-up, and the three rewards attached to it become available in your cosmetics: the GLASSES 1 outfit, the BROKEN RECORD item, and the DEAD-END JOB hair. If those three are still locked after the chapter ends, the kill did not count and the chapter needs a replay.

Why the Temple Stab execution does not trigger

The failure cases are narrow and repeatable, which makes them easy to rule out one at a time.

  • Grabbing below Tier 3. A low-tier grab still kills Eric, but it ends the encounter with a plain execution and no contextual prompt.
  • Killing him outside the stockroom. An execution in the alley, the aisles, or the doorway does not satisfy the location condition.
  • Not pinning him fully. If Eric is near the pillar but not pressed against it, the prompt stays on the generic Execute option. Reposition before pressing anything.
  • Alerting him. A spooked Eric runs and hides in the dumpster outside. You can still pull him out, but you lose the stalk build and have to set up the grab again.
  • Outdated build. Early Access Hotfix 1, released on September 5, 2026, corrected several challenges that were not tracking properly. Patch the game before assuming a clean run failed.

Eric is the first target in Main Street, so there is no real cost to restarting the chapter if the stalk breaks early. Getting the Tier 3 grab and the pillar position right takes maybe two minutes, and the rest of Chapter 2 — Tanya at the cash register, Rachel in the cemetery, Slab by the tree — is unaffected either way.
