Steam Achievement Leak: Every Game Revealed So Far

A Steam backend bug exposed achievement data for dozens of upcoming and still-secret games, from Persona 6 to unannounced Shrek and Avengers projects.

A Steam backend bug exposed achievement data for dozens of upcoming and still-secret games, from Persona 6 to unannounced Shrek and Avengers projects.

A backend slip-up on Steam briefly made private achievement data readable for a huge number of unreleased games. The exposed entries reached the achievement-tracking service Exophase through Steam’s public API, and the fallout swept up marquee sequels, remasters, and a batch of titles that publishers had not announced yet.

Quick answer: The leak was caused by a Valve error after a weekly maintenance window that left hidden achievement lists accessible through Steam’s API. It exposed data for games including Persona 6, Kingdom Hearts IV, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Gears of War: E-Day, and several unannounced projects. None of the unannounced entries should be treated as confirmed products.

What caused the Steam achievement leak

The exposure was not a hack or a stolen database. Exophase owner Mike Bendel described it as a “screw-up” on Valve’s end, explaining that a set of games with achievements that should have stayed private suddenly became reachable through the API. Because Exophase automatically scans that API, the hidden lists were pulled into the site as soon as they went live.

When Exophase encounters a game with no public name attached, it labels the entry with the internal AppID. That is why so many unknown records started appearing at once, and why the list kept growing as people matched those AppIDs to specific projects. The same data also surfaced on other aggregators that read Steam’s public achievement information.

Note: Several publishers moved quickly to strip the affected data from Steam, but much of it had already been copied and shared, so removing it after the fact does little to contain the spread.

The exposed records span AAA sequels, established franchises, indie titles, remasters, and projects that have never been shown publicly. The table below lists the games identified so far, with a note on which ones remain unannounced. Entries flagged as unannounced are references drawn from the backend and are not official announcements.

Because the same records were matched by different people, a handful of extra names circulated as well, including references to a Balatro follow-up, a Sea of Thieves sequel or spin-off, a new Sonic game, a Chess title, and remasters such as Tales of Eternia and Terranigma. The naming on some entries also differs slightly across trackers, so a few titles appear under variant spellings.

The spoiler risk for Persona 6 and Kingdom Hearts IV

Achievement names are more revealing than they sound. A single trophy can name a character, a location, a boss, or a late-game event, which is a real problem for story-driven games that rely on surprise. Two entries stand out for how much they expose.

Persona 6, which still has no official release date, surfaced with a set of roughly 48 achievements that hint at activities, systems, and locations. Kingdom Hearts IV’s list reportedly gestures at Disney worlds that have not been shown to players yet. Both go beyond simple completion milestones, which is exactly why they carry the most spoiler weight.

Some entries are far thinner. The unannounced Twin Peaks record, for example, currently holds only two achievements, one of which is a test entry and another tied to reaching the Double R Diner. That is a reminder that a lone achievement set can be an early prototype rather than a finished game headed to release.

Are the leaked achievements final?

No. Achievement lists are built, edited, and sometimes scrapped throughout development, so nothing in the exposed data is guaranteed to appear in a shipped game. Developers can still rename, remove, or add achievements before launch.

Some of the leaked sets are also incomplete or contain placeholder text, which means the visible list may not represent the full slate. Treat the confirmed, already-announced games as reliable subjects and the unannounced entries as unverified. An achievement record showing up through Steam’s backend does not confirm a game exists as a real, planned release, since internal tests and cancelled projects can leave the same trail.

For anyone actively avoiding spoilers on the big announced titles, the safest move is to steer clear of achievement trackers and discussion threads until the affected games launch. The records are being cleaned up piecemeal, but the information is already loose, and more names may still be matched to their AppIDs as people continue digging.
