WARDOGS is playable on PC in early access through Steam, and its default preset leaves plenty of frames on the table. The game responds well to tuning, so a few targeted changes cut lag and raise FPS without turning the battlefield into a blurry mess. The goal is not to drop everything to the lowest level. Some options actually help you spot distant infantry and vehicles, so those stay high while the pure eye-candy settings come down.

Quick answer: Set Display Mode to Fullscreen, Resolution to native, VSync Off, Nvidia Reflex Enabled, and Anti-Aliasing to DLSS or FSR on Quality. Then keep Mesh Detail and View Distance High, Shading and Effects Medium, Textures High if VRAM allows, and turn Global Illumination, Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Lens Flare, and Bloom off while dropping Shadows, Reflections, Particle Spawn Rate, and Post-Processing to Low.

WARDOGS display and upscaling settings

Display options decide how frames reach your monitor and how responsive aiming feels, so set them before touching visual quality. Native resolution gives the cleanest image and keeps long-range targets readable, which matters more here than a small FPS gain from a lower resolution. Turn VSync off unless your monitor lacks G-Sync or FreeSync, since it adds input delay in a shooter. Nvidia Reflex reduces system latency on compatible GeForce cards and should stay on.

Upscaling is the tool to reach for when your GPU cannot hold a stable frame rate at native resolution. Both DLSS and FSR recover performance while keeping a cleaner image than simply lowering resolution. Start at Quality, then step down only if the GPU is still maxed out. Judge the result on moving targets rather than static screenshots, because blur around foliage and distant players matters more than a slightly softer wall.

WARDOGS graphics quality settings for max FPS

Set the Overall Quality preset to Custom so you can tune each option. Avoid the Overkill preset, which locks several settings at maximum and blocks these adjustments. The values below favor visibility and stable frames during crowded objectives, vehicle fights, and heavy destruction, where the engine works hardest.

Global Illumination, Shadows, Reflections, and Particle Spawn Rate carry the largest performance weight, so change them first when frames get unstable. View Distance and Mesh Detail cost far less than they suggest and directly affect how early you see threats, which is why they stay high. If a busy scene still stutters, drop Effects to Low before you cut View Distance or textures.


Texture quality and VRAM

Texture quality leans on VRAM rather than raw GPU power, so it is one setting worth keeping high when your card has memory to spare. WARDOGS shows a VRAM impact readout in the corner of the menu, which makes it easy to see when you are close to the limit. If you hit stutter, hitching, or VRAM warnings, lower Texture Streaming first before dropping every texture option.

FOV and visibility settings

Gameplay options do not change your FPS much, but they decide how well you see the field. A Field of View of 95 gives wide peripheral vision without shrinking distant enemies too much, which suits the long sightlines here. Pushing FOV to the maximum makes far-off infantry harder to pick out, so 95 is a solid baseline you can nudge up slowly. Weapon View Model Scale at 4 is a fine default, and lowering it makes the gun smaller so it blocks less of your sight.

Set ADS FOV to Affected so low-magnification optics scale with your regular FOV. Disable the Picture-in-Picture Scope to remove a small render load and simplify aiming at range.


Low-end and laptop settings for maximum FPS

On weaker PCs and laptops, push the heaviest options lower and lean on upscaling to keep the game looking acceptable. The settings below target the highest possible frame rate while preserving enough detail to read the battlefield.

Note: Global Illumination, Shadows, Reflections, and Particle Spawn Rate move the FPS needle the most on a very weak system, so adjust those before anything else. A frame rate above 60 is playable, and 120 or higher feels comfortable once the drops stop.


Mouse settings for consistent aim

Sensitivity is personal, but a clean baseline helps while you build muscle memory. Use 0.70 sensitivity at 800 DPI, keep Mouse Acceleration off so the same hand movement always turns the camera the same amount, and start the ADS Multiplier at 1.00. Relative sensitivity scaling with Monitor Matching Distance at 100% and an Instant transition makes aiming down sights feel immediate.

Audio can be tuned for clearer directional cues. Keeping music low and effects at full volume makes footsteps and gunfire easier to place, and enabling 3D Spatial Audio sharpens the sense of where sounds come from. Adjust the UI Volume to taste from the Audio tab.

Vehicle and helicopter controls

Aircraft become far easier to fly with a mouse after a few control changes. Enable Rotary Vehicle Mouse Control and map pitch and roll so the helicopter answers your movements smoothly. For yaw, the standard layout keeps turning on the movement keys, with Yaw Left on A and Yaw Right on D, while Collective sits on Space to raise and Left Shift to lower.

Interface and HUD settings

Interface options do not affect performance, but they keep critical information visible. Set core HUD elements such as Cash, Compass, Health, Killfeed, and Equipped Item to Always On, and keep Adaptive Crosshair enabled while you learn how each weapon behaves. Nameplate Background Opacity can be lowered to reduce clutter around enemy and ally markers if the default panels feel heavy.

Map behavior is another preference worth checking. Minimap Rotation can be disabled for a fixed orientation, and the Invert Map Preset Zoom option lets you flip the zoom direction if the default scroll feels backwards.

Confirm the changes worked

After applying these values, load into a busy match with vehicles and destruction and watch the frame counter during the heaviest fights, since that is where drops appear. Stable frames near your target with no sudden dips means the settings are doing their job. If you still see stutter, lower Shadows, Reflections, or Particle Spawn Rate first, then step down the upscaling mode. Keep your graphics drivers current and close background apps before launching, since both can cause hitching that no in-game setting will fix.
