“The Skag and the Robot” is the opening mission of the FL4K and the Last Resort story pack for Borderlands 4. It drops you on Providence Island, introduces the Beastmaster himself, and ends with his skag Mr. Chew snatched away by Lieutenant Harmony. The whole run is a straight line of combat objectives with two defense holds, and it hands off directly into the next mission, “The Chase.”
Quick answer: Accept the “DLC Start” mission from the terminal in the Terminus Range, travel to Providence Island, exit the escape pod in the Vinechoked Canopy, find FL4K, claim The Surly Centipede tiki bar by starting and defending the generator, repair the zipline to Chamber Pavilion, then defend FL4K while he cracks Mr. Chew’s cage and interact with Mr. Chew after the cutscene.
What you need before starting The Skag and the Robot
The mission is gated behind the story pack, and that gate applies to your whole party. The mission terminal spells it out: all players must own FL4K and the Last Resort to progress. If one person in your co-op session hasn’t bought it, the mission will not advance for the group.

Starting the mission in the Terminus Range

Vinechoked Canopy: Find FL4K and follow the hunt

The Surly Centipede: Claim the tiki bar and hold the generator

Zipline repair and the assault on Chamber Pavilion
Defend FL4K and finish the mission

How to confirm the mission completed
Completion is easy to verify. The tracker drops “The Skag and the Robot” and immediately replaces it with “The Chase,” and the achievement Does The Skag Die? unlocks for finishing the mission. If your tracker still shows the Mr. Chew objective, the turn-in interaction didn’t register and you need to press the prompt again.
Why the mission can stall
There are only a few points where progress stops, and each has a specific cause.
- A player in your session doesn’t own FL4K and the Last Resort, so the mission refuses to advance for the group.
- Stragglers are still alive during “Claim the Tiki Bar” or the pavilion assault, which blocks the next objective from firing.
- The zipline hasn’t been repaired with the hack bot, leaving no route across to Chamber Pavilion.
- You ran ahead of FL4K during the hunt segment, so he stops moving until you return to him.
At Very Easy difficulty the mission runs short, and most of the time goes into the two defense holds rather than any single boss. Once Mr. Chew’s echo is used and “The Chase” appears in your log, you’re clear to push straight into the next leg of the story pack.
