Roblox Runaways: How to Beat a 5-Star Wanted Level

The setup, loot routine, and border tactics that let you carry maximum police heat all the way into Mexico.

A five-star wanted level in RUNAWAYS is not a side objective you stumble into. It is a run you plan from the first house, because every star you gain makes the police stronger, faster to respond, and far more willing to shred your car. The payoff is the highest-value escape the game offers, and it is completely doable if you treat the wanted level as something you spend money on rather than something that happens to you.

Quick answer: Bank enough cash in the first two towns to buy armor, a bag upgrade, C4, and explosive weapons, then farm kills and cross state borders to push the stars from three to five. Keep a jerry can and toolkit on the car at all times, stock coffee and food, and survive the two-minute timer at the Mexico border to bank the escape.

What changes at each wanted level

The wanted meter sits at the top of the screen and fills as you commit crimes. There is currently no way to lower it once it rises, so the only real decision is when you let it climb. Cops scale with the meter, backup arrives sooner, and the damage your vehicle takes goes up sharply in the back half of the run.

StarsWhat you faceWhat to do about it
1–2Basic police, slow responseFarm kills here with cheap melee and pistols; ammo is expensive
3Upgraded officers in darker gearBuy light armor, start fighting at range instead of brawling
4SWAT vehicles, much tankier enemiesRestock ammo, food, fuel and repair tools before pushing further
5Military-grade units and HummersStop trying to kill everything; prioritize survival and the border

Fighting police early is the cheapest way to climb, because low-star officers die to melee weapons and take almost nothing from your supplies. Waiting until the end of the run to build heat means doing all of that fighting against the toughest enemies in the game, which is how most five-star attempts collapse.

Loadout and class picks for a 5-star run

Classes and cars are bought in the lobby and stay with you permanently, so they are the one part of the run you can lock in before you spawn. Armor and firepower matter more than raw speed once the stars stack up, but you still need enough pace to break a chase.

SlotPickWhy
ClassX MilitaryStarts with heavy armor and a Heavy Sniper, both useful against late waves
Budget classGang Member or MedicExtra storage and speed, or a flat health boost, without spending Robux
VehicleG Truck (6×6)Armor keeps it alive through military fire between towns
Budget vehicleT-1000Fast like the Charged but with armor on top
MeleeMachete, Axe, Knuckles or MaceFree damage against early police so you save ammo money
RangedHeavy Sniper or MinigunBest damage per credit spent for the three-star-plus waves
ExplosivesFlamethrower, Grenade Launcher, RPGClears grouped NPCs and vehicle pileups quickly

Heavy ammunition is the single biggest drain on your wallet, so keep the sniper holstered until enemies stop dying to melee. A flamethrower is unusually efficient here because it refuels from the same red jerry cans you already carry for the car.

Run checklist: early, mid, and late game targets

The run breaks cleanly into three phases, and each one has a shopping list you should clear before moving on. Falling behind on cash is what forces bad decisions later, like skipping armor or driving into a town with a half-empty tank.

PhaseTargets
Early gameGet 10,000 money, buy boost drinks, medium bag, flamethrower, C4s, small armor, start building stars
Mid gameGet 25,000 money, rob a bank, finish a bounty, grab a jerry can and toolkit, hit military or farm bases
Late gameGet 50,000 money, 100 NPC kills, 20 military vehicles destroyed, large bag, grenade launcher, 5 med kits, escape

Early game: build cash before you build heat

Clear the starter house, grab whatever is marked with a green circle, and head straight for the pawn shop. Selling immediately on arrival lets you refuel before police alerts start pushing fuel logistics into panic mode.

Check behind the gas station fences before you leave. Free toolkits, drills, and jerry cans spawn back there, and carrying at least one of each removes the two most common causes of a failed run.
Skip the isolated houses along the highway between the first two towns. They damage your car for very little return, and car health is the resource you will miss most at four and five stars.
Prioritize large, high-value loot over clutter. Guitars, paintings, statues, rings, necklaces, watches, crowns, and penguin plushies all sell well, while trash bags are a waste of inventory. Large items cannot go in your bag at all, so attach them to the car instead.
Drop junk weapons like the basic pistol once you have something better. Inventory space is worth more than a backup gun you will never fire.

Note: on foot, sliding and immediately jumping gives a large movement speed boost. Use it for every loot run between a building and your car, and it will save you a surprising amount of time across a full run.

Mid game: banks, bounties, and the climb to four stars

Banks are the first real money spike. Buy C4 and a machete, plant the charge on the vault door, detonate it, then hit the vault wheel with the machete to finish the breach. ATMs, cash registers, and safes pay out on the spot, which means no pawn shop trip afterwards.

Light armor belongs in your inventory before you hit three stars. It is cheap compared to what it saves you in med kits, and the upgraded officers that show up at that point do enough damage to end a run that was going fine.

Bounties are worth the detour. Military and farm bases hold both the bounty boss and strong loot, and clearing a bounty target pays out in the tens of thousands. Vending machines in town are also worth a stop, since coffee and Blue Cow both grant temporary speed boosts you will want later.

Crossing a state line is a reliable way to push the meter up a notch, and the run funnels you through Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas on the way south. Burning a tightly grouped cluster of NPCs with the flamethrower right before a border crossing is the fastest way to convert four stars into five.

Tip: the Mansion looks like a jackpot and is not worth the time or the risk in the early and mid game. The loot does not justify how long you are exposed inside it.

Keeping the car alive under military fire

At five stars, Hummers and SWAT vehicles chase you between towns and will chew through your vehicle if you let them sit on your bumper. Carry at least three repair kits or drills, which come from the American Tire shops in later towns, and use them the moment a fight ends rather than waiting for the next one.

Fuel gets more expensive the further south you go, so budget for it in every town and keep spare jerry cans attached to the car. Watch your speed near roadside cameras too, because speeding tickets add stars you did not choose to earn.

To break a police chase, stop the car and wait for the officers to climb out of their vehicle, then drive off before they can get back in. It looks wrong and it works.

Surviving on foot after your vehicle is destroyed

Losing the car at five stars is survivable, but only if you prepared for it. Chain coffee and Blue Cow speed boosts, keep slide-jumping, and head south in a straight line rather than fighting.

The police helicopter is the real threat on foot, since it keeps your position marked for everything on the ground. Duck behind large rocks or cacti to break its line of sight, wait for it to lose you, then move again. Food handles healing on the run, as burgers, hot dogs, apples, and Cronch all restore health for free, and steak looted from houses grants an armor boost on top.

The Mexico border: surviving the two-minute timer

Reaching the border does not end the run. It starts a two-minute survival timer while the crossing opens, and the five-star response arrives in force during that window. Explosive weapons earn their cost here, since police vehicles stack up and a grenade launcher or RPG clears several at once.

Positioning decides this fight. Do not let cruisers box in your vehicle from all sides, keep an exit lane open, and use the sniper at distance instead of trading punches. You do not need to kill everything, only outlast the clock. Heal with food before the timer expires rather than during the drive out.

You will know it worked when the escape banner appears and the results screen totals your credits, including the escape bonus. A completed five-star run also awards a badge for finishing under the highest wanted level.

Why 5-star runs usually fail

  • Running dry on fuel between towns because the tank was topped off before the last sale instead of after.
  • Arriving at the border with no repair kits, no food, and an almost-destroyed car.
  • Burning heavy sniper ammo on one-star officers that melee weapons would have handled for free.
  • Getting surrounded during the border timer with no open lane to reverse into.
  • Saving the fighting for the end, so every star has to be earned against military units.

None of that is a skill wall. A five-star escape is mostly a logistics problem wearing a shootout’s clothes, and the runs that succeed are the ones where fuel, repairs, food, and ammo were all handled two towns earlier than they needed to be.
