Burnt Offering is one of the shorter side missions on Providence Island, and it has a punchline instead of a boss fight. A man named Chance wants a virgin sacrifice thrown into a lava pool, and the mission only ends one way: you go in. There is no enemy to kill, no object to fetch, and no alternate path that keeps you alive.
Quick answer: Accept Burnt Offering from Chance in Pyroclast Grotto, then jump into the lava pool next to his camp. Dying in the lava completes the objective and awards the Undeniable Virtue pistol.
Requirements to start Burnt Offering
Burnt Offering is a DLC side mission tied to Providence Island, the map added with the FL4K and the Last Resort story pack. You need that content installed and owned on your account before the mission giver icon shows up on the map at all.
Co-op adds a second condition. The game states plainly that all players must own FL4K and the Last Resort for the mission to progress, so a guest without the story pack will block the quest for the whole group rather than just miss out on the reward.
Note: if the mission marker is missing from your Pyroclast Field map, push the story pack’s main quest line further before hunting for it.
Chance’s location in Pyroclast Grotto
Open the map and set your waypoint in Pyroclast Field. The side mission giver marker sits inside Pyroclast Grotto, the cave system underneath the surface of that region, so the yellow marker will read as being below you for most of the approach.
Getting down there is a traversal puzzle more than a fight. The route drops through the grotto using ziplines, with stretches where you climb the exposed tree roots running along the cavern walls. Keep the marker in view and you will not need to backtrack.
Enemies along the way are ordinary grotto spawns, not part of the mission. Clear them if they get in the way, but nothing here is required to unlock the quest.
How to complete the sacrifice
Confirming the mission completed
The confirmation is the “Resurrected!” prompt followed immediately by Chance’s reaction dialogue and the mission complete notification. If you die in the lava and Chance says nothing, you jumped in before accepting the quest from him.
Dying costs you the usual resurrection fee taken straight from your cash, and it scales with your character, so at high levels the bill runs into the tens of millions. There is no way to complete Burnt Offering without paying it.
Undeniable Virtue reward and stats
The payout is Undeniable Virtue, a unique Order pistol. It is delivered through the rewards panel rather than dropped on the ground, so open your inventory and claim it from there once the mission wraps up.
Its defining trait is the Order charge behavior: hold the trigger to charge, and the gun releases multiple rounds at once. The projectiles burst into confetti and fireworks on impact, which makes it easy to read your hits at a distance.

Burnt Offering takes only a few minutes once you are in the grotto, and the death is scripted into the design rather than a mistake on your part. The only real cost is the respawn fee, so if you are sitting on a small bank balance, it is worth grabbing the quest early rather than at a high Ultimate Vault Hunter level.
