Balthazar, the Wyvernflame is the commander at the end of The Wyvernflames questline, a faction chain tied to the Ironwheel of Dewhaven in Delesyia. He is a ranged boss who fights with a hand cannon, grenades, fire attacks, and a pack of wyverns circling overhead, and he refuses to stand and die in one place. The encounter moves across three separate arenas before it ends.
Quick answer: Dodge every red-glowing attack, chase Balthazar from Wyvern’s Cradle to Fort Windridge, grapple the fort walls to reach the courtyard, then break his guard to burn down his 4,321 health.
Where to find Balthazar, the Wyvernflame
The fight begins at Wyvern’s Cradle, in the Dewhaven area of southern Delesyia. Head southeast of Three Brothers’ Cliff and follow the path into the cradle rather than dropping straight down from the cliff edge above it. From there the trail leads to Fort Windridge, where Balthazar holds out.
Wyverns patrol the sky around Fort Windridge. Fighting them only stalls your push on the fort, so keep moving and deal with the soldiers on the ground instead.

His damage comes in three shapes. The hand cannon is a long, telegraphed shot that hurts badly on a direct hit. Grenades and fire attacks cover ground, marked by red indicators under your feet. And he occasionally springs into a leaping attack that can take a huge chunk of health if it lands clean.
Whenever Balthazar glows red, roll. That glow flags an attack you cannot safely eat, and dodging it is the single mechanic that decides this fight.
Skills and attribute levels to bring
Because Balthazar spends most of the fight at range, Spirit skills carry more weight than raw melee output. Slot these regardless of your build:
- Evasive Roll (Spirit)
- Focus (Spirit)
- Force Palm (Spirit)
- Keen Senses (Spirit)
- Nature’s Snare (Spirit)
Bow players should add Evasive Shot and Marksmanship, both Stamina skills. Melee players swap those for Armed Combat and Turning Slash instead.
For attributes, aim for Health level 5 or higher, Spirit level 5 or higher, and Stamina level 10 or higher. Pushing Stamina past level 10 requires Red Seaweed, so gather that before you commit to the fort if you want the extra headroom.
Focus (R3+L3 / RS+LS) slows time and turns his slow, obvious shots and leaps into free dodges. Nature’s Snare (rotate the right stick) absorbs an incoming projectile and sends it back at him, which is the cleanest way to punish his cannon without closing distance.
How to defeat Balthazar, the Wyvernflame

Guard break: when to commit damage
Balthazar’s guard can be broken, and that is your damage window. You will see green particle effects and a broken shield icon over him the moment it happens. He is stunned and open during that stun, so unload everything you have instead of trading single hits.

Rewards and how to confirm the quest completed
Loot the body after the cutscene. Balthazar drops his gear at a 100 percent rate, and the artifact comes from a separate objective in the same quest chain.
| Reward | Source |
|---|---|
| Wyvern Blaster | Boss drop, 100% |
| Wyvernflames Captain’s Pack | Boss drop, 100% |
| Abyss Artifact | “Obtain the artifact” objective |
| Delesyian Contribution x300 | Quest reward |

The Wyvern Blaster is a heavy weapon modeled on Balthazar’s own cannon, and it is usable by Oongka rather than Kliff.
Killing Balthazar is not the last objective. The chain also asks you to defeat the enemies around Fort Windridge, which triggers the Fort Windridge Liberation step. Clear the remaining soldiers in and around the fort to close it out.
You know it worked when the journal entry updates to “Balthazar, the Wyvernflame was defeated,” the Quest Completed banner appears, and an on-screen message confirms your contribution level increased. Reopening the Faction Quests menu should show the Balthazar entry closed out rather than in progress.

If the fight keeps going badly, the fix is almost always defensive rather than offensive. Level Stamina before Attack, keep Focus off cooldown for his leap and cannon, and treat every red flash as a hard stop on whatever you were about to do.
