Faith drives most of your long-term progress in Graveyard Keeper 2. You spend it on Inspirations, research, and story steps, but the game gives you no way to earn it at the start. It only opens up once you finish an early chain of errands and a Nun arrives to hand you the Temple.
Quick answer: Faith comes from performing Mass once per in-game week at the Temple. You unlock the Temple by helping Jack build and crew his boat, then meeting the Nun at the Tavern.
Unlock preaching: Jack, the Twins, and the Nun
There is no hidden Faith node or workstation to find early on. You simply have to push through the opening quests. If you have not been pointed toward Jack and the Twins yet, talk to the merchant in the village to start the chain.
Talking to the Nun opens the Temple and grants access to sermons. Once that conversation ends, you can walk into the Temple, perform your first Mass, and start banking Faith.

Add to Google Preferences →Perform Mass on Wrath day
Mass is your main Faith source, and it can only be held once per in-game week on Wrath day. Watch the calendar for its symbol: a deep red, vertically positioned male symbol. Miss the day and you wait a full week for the next window.
Your starting Basic Prayer is fine for the first sermons. Approach the lectern, select the prayer, and start preaching. The Prayer Report afterward confirms it worked, listing the visitors, the Faith received, and the money earned. Collect your donations from the offering box, then open the Inspirations menu to see your new Faith total.
Each sermon also pays out money, so reinvesting those coins into the Temple and future prayers pays for itself over time.
Increase Faith per sermon
Because Mass fires only once a week, every sermon should be as strong as possible. Four systems raise your weekly Faith, and they stack.
Raise the Temple’s Splendor
The most direct boost is improving the Temple itself. Start by cleaning the interior, then add furnishings that impress your congregation. Benches are the reliable early upgrade, while the Theology branch of the Tech Tree later unlocks Shrines, Candles, Incense, and broader building improvements.
One Interior Bench costs 2 Wooden Planks and 6 Bronze Nails. There are six bench slots, so filling every one takes 12 Wooden Planks and 36 Bronze Nails, plus enough stamina to build them in a session. You do not have to place them all at once, but doing it before a Wrath day makes that week’s Faith more efficient.
Keep Gratitude maxed before every Mass
Gratitude is a new stat shown by the golden thumbs-up icon at the top of the screen. It reflects how much the town trusts you, and higher trust means better returns from your flock. A sermon consumes Gratitude, which gives you the following week to refill it before the next Wrath day.
You start with a maximum Gratitude of only 10. That cap limits how many parishioners show up even if your Temple quality is higher, because the game always uses the lower of the two values. Raising your maximum Gratitude alongside the Temple is what lets a grand church actually fill up.
Ways to earn Gratitude:
- Bury bodies, then sell the Burial Certificates to the Tavern Keeper.
- Consume Town Gratitude pages handed out as quest rewards.
- Sell food to the merchant.
- Sell any item marked with the golden thumbs-up in shop menus.
- Help NPCs complete their quests.
Check your Gratitude total before Wrath day and top it up. Preaching with a partially filled bar wastes the week’s potential.
Craft better Prayers
Later on, you can write stronger Prayers at Writing Desks. Different Prayers grant different buffs on top of Faith, so some suit certain playstyles better than others. This is locked in the early game, and a more advanced Prayer only helps if your Temple is good enough to perform it reliably. Focus on Splendor and Gratitude first, then move up to higher-quality Prayers built around Faith as your writing tech improves.
Unlock the Priest perk
Completing Theology Inspirations unlocks permanent Perks tied to religious progress. One of them, Priest, directly increases the Faith you receive from sermons. Work through these Inspirations as you develop the other systems.
Treat every Wrath day as an event to prepare for. Refill Gratitude during the week, expand the Temple, upgrade your Prayer when you can, and chip away at Theology. A single well-prepared sermon returns far more Faith than a rushed one, and that Faith is what keeps your research and story moving.
