Leveling in Aniimo stops the moment you hit your current cap, and no amount of extra experience will push you past it. The barrier is set by your Pathfinder rank, which is tied to your Student Level and advances only when you clear Elite Training and pass an assessment with Dr. Lewis.

Quick answer: To raise the level cap, complete four required Core Course objectives in your current Elite Training chapter, return to Dr. Lewis at the Outpost, then pass the Promotion Assessment and its final theory questions to earn your next Pathfinder title.

What sets the level cap in Aniimo

Two separate limits control how high your levels can climb, and they work together.

  • Pathfinder Level raises your character’s stats, capture rate, stamina and Twine damage. It also acts as a soft cap for your Aniimo, which cannot exceed your current character level.
  • Student Level is the hard cap that limits both your character and every Aniimo. Each promotion pushes this ceiling higher, and it only moves through Elite Training.
  • Aniimo Level follows your character and earns experience at the same time, but stays below the soft cap your Pathfinder Level allows.

The practical takeaway is simple. If your character has stopped leveling, grinding more experience will not help. You need the next promotion instead.

Pathfinder titles and their level caps

Each Pathfinder title increases the maximum level step by step. The progression covers the Student ranks, then advances to Wayfarer and Trailblazer promotions.

Pathfinder TitleLevel Cap
Student I25
Student II35
Student III40
Wayfarer I45
Wayfarer II50
Wayfarer III55
Trailblazer I60
Trailblazer II65

Read these numbers as the cap each title grants, not the exact level you must reach to begin every promotion. Your Elite Training progress and its requirements decide when you can advance, and a Title Promotion raises the Character Level Cap and the Aniimo Level Cap together by the same amount.

How to earn a Pathfinder promotion

Open your current Elite Training chapter and work through the Core Course. You need to complete four required objectives, which unlocks the Assessment for that chapter.
Report to Dr. Lewis, who is always at the Outpost, and clear the Promotion Assessment mission he gives you. This is the practical test that confirms you have engaged with the systems the chapter covers.
Return to Dr. Lewis and finish the final theory assessment, a short questionnaire. Passing it awards your new Pathfinder title, a higher cap, and Report Cards.

Later chapters add extra gating tasks before the assessment opens. For example, one Student-tier promotion asks you to own two level 35 Aniimo with one trained to the Resonance Gamma stage, spend 150 Primegy, and defeat specific Alpha Aniimo such as Tubster. When a step is unclear, check the Core Course entry, since it lists exactly what still blocks the promotion.

Dr. Lewis assessment answers

The theory tests use multiple-choice questions. For the first promotion test, every answer is All of the above. The Student III promotion, tied to the Legacy’s Protection questline and the battle against Jilly at Beast Fang Ridge, uses these answers in order:

  • All of the above
  • All of the above
  • Defeat Alpha Aniimo

How to confirm the cap increased

You will know the promotion worked when the Title Promotion panel appears and shows the Character Level Cap and Aniimo Level Cap rising together, for example from 25 to 35. The assessment-passed screen then confirms your new title, the higher Aniimo Level Cap, and the Report Cards you earned. World Level and Challenge Rewards scale up at the same time.

What happens to EXP at the cap

Reaching a cap does not waste the experience you keep earning. Once your character hits a Pathfinder gate, surplus character EXP is held in escrow, shown as an overfilled bar such as 7000/3500. When you clear the promotion, that stored progress applies immediately.

The escrow only covers character EXP. Aniimo EXP is not stored this way, so raising the cap quickly matters most for your team.

Report Cards from promotions

Each promotion awards Report Cards, the talent points for your own Pathfinder build rather than an individual Aniimo. You spend them to unlock active tools and passive bonuses covering traversal, healing, catching, combat, and exploration. A promotion can open a new talent tier, but the abilities are not learned automatically, so you still choose which upgrades to buy.

Report Cards also come from leveling; Aniilog Level and Journey Quests are options, along with the Elite Pathfinder Challenge.

Research Level does not raise the cap

Research Level is a separate system and will not remove a level cap, so do not confuse it with your Pathfinder rank. It tracks your knowledge of individual Aniimo families and rises through Beginner, Adept, Veteran, and Expert ranks as you catch creatures, complete evolutions, obtain Elite or Sparkling or Prismana forms, and report through the Research Console.

Its rewards are family-specific rather than character-wide. Fully developing Research for a family can expand its accessory slots from a single starting slot up to five, and in some cases unlocks evolution paths. If your leveling has stalled, treat Elite Training as the fix and develop Research alongside normal exploration.
