Dragon Eggs are the summoning items you need before you can challenge Moder, the fourth boss in Valheim. They sit in Drake nests high in the Mountain biome, and you need three of them to start the fight. Their real challenge is not finding them, but moving them, because each egg is extremely heavy and cannot pass through a portal.
Quick answer: Collect three Dragon Eggs from Drake nests in the Mountains, haul them by foot, cart, or boat to Moder’s altar, place all three, and activate the summon.
Where Dragon Eggs spawn in the Mountains
Dragon Eggs are found only in Drake nests scattered across the Mountain biome. The eggs are large and give off a purple-pink glow, which makes them stand out against the snow. If you are struggling to spot one, wait for night and climb to a high peak, then scan the slopes for the glow.
Each egg is normally guarded by up to three Drakes, flying enemies that deal frost damage. Spotting a pack of three Drakes is a strong sign that a nest is nearby. Bring a bow and a stock of arrows to clear them before you grab the egg. The Mountains are also freezing, so carry Frost Resistance Mead or wear cold-protection gear, or your health will drain as you climb.
A single mountain that is large enough to hold Moder’s summoning altar usually contains enough eggs for the fight. Occasionally a region has fewer than three, in which case you will need to search a second mountain and bring the eggs across.
Mark each nest on your map before you approach it. If you pick up an egg with no free inventory space, it can vanish, so make room first.
The 200-unit weight problem
Each Dragon Egg weighs 200 units and does not stack. Your default carry capacity is 300, so you can only hold one egg at a time before you become overencumbered. Dragon Eggs also cannot be moved through wood portals, so you cannot shortcut the trip home.

Because portals are off the table, use one of these approaches to move the eggs:
- Transport eggs by cart or boat between locations.
- Buy the Megingjord belt from Haldor for +150 carry weight, letting you carry two eggs at once.
- Drink a Mead of Troll Endurance for +250 carry weight for 300 seconds.
Megingjord costs 950 Coins and is sold by Haldor, the traveling merchant who appears in Black Forest biomes. If you are short on coins, raid Black Forest crypts and farm Trolls; Love Potions can raise Troll spawns for faster gold.
If you must pull a cart across a mountain, flatten the ground with a hoe as you go to smooth out steep angles, since uneven terrain slows the cart badly. When a mountain simply does not have three eggs, load what you have onto a boat and ferry it to the mountain with the altar.
In most worlds you do not need to haul eggs long distances at all. The eggs can be gathered on the same mountain that holds Moder’s altar. Long transport is only needed when that mountain has fewer than three.
How to summon Moder with Dragon Eggs
Summoning Moder is the only purpose Dragon Eggs serve. You cannot hatch them into a pet, and they have no cooking value.
You know it worked when the three eggs are consumed from the altar and Moder spawns above the summoning circle. Any extra eggs you collect later can only be used to summon her again.
Respawns and other egg uses
Dragon Eggs respawn in their nests after 8 hours of in-game time, so you can gather more for repeat summons. The Drakes guarding them, however, do not respawn once killed. Because the respawn window is long, it is usually faster to scout more nests across the biome than to camp a single one.
If you want an egg-based consumable, visit the Bog Witch in a swamp and buy Powdered Dragon Eggshells. Those are used to craft Meads of Troll Endurance, which grant +250 carry weight for 300 seconds, exactly the boost that makes hauling the eggs themselves far easier.
Skip the climb by using the console: enter devcommands at the F5 console to enable cheats, then run spawn DragonEgg to generate an egg.
