Clue: Dragon Legends I is the lead that opens the island chapter of the Russet Highlands. It has two objectives in the Log, no combat, and one slightly strange requirement: you have to stop being yourself for a few minutes and let a dragon kidnap you.

Quick answer: Catch a Helmut in the Russet Highlands, twine into it, then walk to the tracked marker on the clifftop above the sea. Scar-faced Helgon swoops in and carries you to the island.

What you need before starting Clue: Dragon Legends I

The clue appears after you help the painter Sorora recover her memories of the Russet Highlands and hear the first fragments of the dragon legends. An earthquake split part of the highlands off into an island, and Scar-faced Helgon is the only thing that still travels between the two.

  • Region: Russet Highlands, in the Breezy Plains, with a level range of 45 to 50.
  • Quest type: a Clue, filed under Journey in the Log.
  • Objectives: two — get Scar-faced Helgon’s “help”, and twine with a Helmut.
  • A Helmut in your active party. Helmut is a Lumin-stage Dark Aniimo with the BREAK role.

A Pawney also works here if you already have one, and the quest text recommends it.

Getting a Helmut and twining into it

The disguise is the whole puzzle. Helgon only takes an interest in Helmuts, so your own character walking up the hill accomplishes nothing.

Open the Log, select Clue: Dragon Legends I under Journey, and track it. That places the marker on the map, out near the coastal edge of the Russet Highlands.

Ride or run across the snowy grassland toward the marker. Wild Helmuts wander this stretch, so you can pick one up on the way instead of making a separate trip.
Throw an Aniipod at a wild Helmut and catch it. Its level and stats do not matter, because you are never going to fight with it.

Open the Aniimo management screen and move the Helmut into your active battle party. It has to be in the active slots, not in storage, or you cannot twine with it.

Use Twine to transform into the Helmut. The Log objective “Twine with a Helmut” ticks off the moment the transformation finishes.

Getting Scar-faced Helgon’s “help”

The second objective is the one the quest puts in scare quotes, and the game means it. Helgon’s idea of help is picking you up without asking.

Still transformed, follow the marked path uphill. A Helpful Helmut standing by a tree will stop you to warn you about staying out in the woods, since it watched another Helmut get carried off the day before. That warning is confirmation you are in the right spot.

Keep walking up the snowy hill to the edge that overlooks the ocean, and stand there as a Helmut. Do not untwine, and do not fight anything on the way.
Wait for the cutscene. Scar-faced Helgon drops out of the sky, grabs you, and flies across the water to the isolated island before setting you down on a sandy beach.

Talk through the dialogue on the beach. Helgon hands you a job — accompany its child, Jawling, on a treasure hunt.

How to confirm the clue is finished

You will know it worked without checking anything: the side quest Helmut’s Island Adventure pops on screen the moment the beach conversation ends, telling you to keep up the Helmut bestie disguise and follow the trail. Reopen the Log and Clue: Dragon Legends I is gone from the active list, replaced by the new quest entry and Clue: Dragon Legends II, which points at Helgon settling onto a stone seat as if it is waiting for someone.

Finishing Helmut’s Island Adventure pays out the following:

RewardAmount
Credits15,000
Aniipod Ultra1
Sparkling Crystal3
Idyll Ancient Coin200
Knowledge (EXP)600

That in turn opens Island Adventure: Nightfall Tales, which rewards 7,500 Credits, an Archival Chip – Mural of Infergon’s Birth, 200 Idyll Ancient Coin, and 50 Breezy Plains Dewdrop Crystal. All of it sits inside The Legend of Helmuts and Helgons, the Journey chapter the Russet Highlands is built around, so the disguise is worth keeping handy once you are back on the mainland.
