Where to pick up the quest in Valanaar, how to reach the heirloom inside Wind Hollow, and what you get for it.

The Fate of a Loved One is a short fetch quest on Zephyros Isle, the starting island players are running through in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta. It sends you out of the refugee camp at Valanaar and into the fog of the Ruins of Ban’Aethal, where a missing family member is lying dead inside a crumbling stone temple. The whole run takes a couple of minutes if you know where the body is.

Quick answer: Take the quest in Valanaar, run north to the Ruins of Ban’Aethal, enter the Wind Hollow structure, loot the body inside for Reasan’s Heirloom, then return to the same questgiver.

ObjectiveReasan’s Heirloom 1/1
Objective areaWind Hollow, Ruins of Ban’Aethal

Reward875 XP and reputation

Run at the intended level, that experience payout is enough to push a character to Level 15 on turn-in. There is no gear reward attached to handing the quest in — the loot comes off the corpse itself.

The questgiver and the corpse share a surname, and both names are still in flux during beta. You may see the pair as Katarina Windspeaker and Reasan Windspeaker, or as Estaana Nimbleshadow and Resaan Nimbleshadow. The quest text, the route, and the objective count are the same either way.

Walkthrough: Valanaar to the Wind Hollow ruins

Find the questgiver standing among the refugees in Valanaar and accept The Fate of a Loved One. The NPC is flagged with the usual yellow exclamation mark, so the camp is easy to sweep if you have just arrived on the isle.

Open your map before you move. The objective area is shaded blue over the Ruins of Ban’Aethal, directly north of Valanaar, which is the direction you want to hold the entire way there.

Push through the fog at the ruins and look for the stone temple labelled Wind Hollow. Visibility is poor here, so check the map again once you are inside the shaded zone rather than relying on landmarks.
Climb the stone stairs into the structure. The body is not on the ground floor — it rests in an upper alcove, so keep ascending instead of circling the base.

Deal with the guard. A level 14 elemental named Wind Hollow patrols the interior and will pull as you move through. You can kill it outright or run past it if you are confident you can survive the trip back down.

Click the body lying on the floor and choose Retrieve the heirloom. from the dialogue. Your objective tracker flips to Reasan’s Heirloom 1/1 and a loot window opens containing Windsome and the Beaded Orb of Strength. Take both before you leave.
Head back south to Valanaar. Hostiles in the ruins will chase you out, so open the map, set your line back toward camp, and keep moving rather than stopping to fight everything on the way.

What fights you inside the ruins

Two hostile types sit between you and the alcove, and neither is required for credit. The objective only asks for the heirloom, so every kill here is optional.

  • Wind Hollow — a level 14 elemental holding the temple interior.
  • Mind Flusher — roams the ruins and can add onto you on the stairs.

A pet class has an easy time here. Parking a tanking pet on the elemental while you click the corpse skips the fight entirely.

Turning in the quest and confirming it completed

Return to the same NPC in Valanaar, who will now show a yellow question mark. Click through the dialogue with Continue, then Complete Quest.

You know it worked when the quest drops off your tracker, the experience bar registers the 875 XP award, and your reputation with the refugees ticks up. Characters running this at the intended level will usually see the Level 15 banner fire immediately on turn-in.

Zephyros Isle is beta content right now, so NPC names and small details can shift between builds ahead of the November 4th, 2026 release. The route itself — north from Valanaar, up the stairs of Wind Hollow, loot the body, run back — has stayed consistent.
