Desperate Times in WoW Forever: How to Complete the Zephras Isle Quest

Where to find both Skyborne factions, which reward to pick, and how to confirm the quest is done.

Where to find both Skyborne factions, which reward to pick, and how to confirm the quest is done.

Desperate Times is one of the early Zephras Isle quests in World of Warcraft: Forever, the Skyborne starting zone that runs roughly from level 1 to 12. It is a pure talking quest — no kills, no items to loot — but it sends you to two separate corners of the island, and the council chamber you start in is easy to get turned around in on the way back.

Quick answer: Take Desperate Times from Talaanis Shadowsong, recruit the Windshapers at the camp northwest of the council building, recruit the High Order in the southern sanctuary, then report back to Valenia Stormfist.

Desperate Times quest details

DetailValue
ZoneZephras Isle, Valanaar
Quest giverTalaanis Shadowsong, High Elder of Zephras Isle
Objective 1Recruit the Windshapers (0/1)
Objective 2Recruit the High Order (0/1)
Turn in toValenia Stormfist, Peacekeeper Captain
Follow-upPrepare for Battle

Both objectives are completed by talking to a single NPC each, and they can be done in either order. Nothing on the route is hostile, so a fresh Skyborne character can run the whole thing without stopping to fight.

Where to pick up Desperate Times

Head to the upper council room on Zephras Isle and speak with Talaanis Shadowsong, marked with the usual yellow exclamation point. Accepting his offer adds Desperate Times to your log with both recruitment objectives sitting at 0/1.

Turn to Valenia Stormfist in the same room and pick the dialogue option about the plan. She is the one who spells out which two factions you need, and she is also the NPC you come back to at the end — Talaanis does not take the turn-in.

Recruit the Windshapers (northwest camp)

Leave the council chamber, follow the platform outside, and drop down to the village path below. From there, cross the stone bridge and keep heading northwest through the settlement toward the quest marker.

Nothing along this stretch is required, so you can safely poke around your menus or grab a gathering node while you run. Windshaper Shamans and Warriors are standing around the camp itself, but they are not part of the objective.

Speak with the Windshaper leader at the camp and choose the option that explains Valenia’s plan. The tracker flips to Recruit the Windshapers: 1/1 the moment the dialogue closes.

The Windshaper contact has appeared under different names across Forever beta builds — Kynsa Riveranger in some, Grand Skyseer Aynea Dawnspringer in others. Follow the quest marker rather than the name.

Recruit the High Order (southern sanctuary)

Open the world map, check the southern quest marker, and run back through the settlement. You cross the river bridge and continue toward the southeastern structures, where the temple-like High Order building sits.

Go inside, walk past the High Order Mages and messengers in the entry hall, and continue to the inner chamber. Your target is Elaedrin Evengale, the Supreme Magister of the High Order.
Talk to Elaedrin and select the option explaining Valentia’s plan. That completes Recruit the High Order: 1/1, and with both counters filled the quest is ready to hand in.

Turn in Desperate Times and pick a reward

Leave the sanctuary, retrace the path north, and take the ramps back up into the council chamber. Hand the quest to Valenia Stormfist, not to Talaanis Shadowsong, and she offers a choice of gear alongside experience and gold.

  • Skywatcher’s Vestments — cloth-style chest reward
  • Martyr’s Armor — the alternate armor choice
  • Experience and gold, awarded regardless of the item you take

How to confirm the quest completed

Three things should happen back to back: your chosen reward lands in your bags, the experience bar ticks up, and Desperate Times drops out of the quest tracker entirely. Valenia then immediately offers the follow-up, Prepare for Battle, with a fresh exclamation point over her head.

Picking that up keeps the Zephras Isle chain moving without any extra travel, since it starts in the same council room you just walked back into. It is worth accepting before you log out, if only so the next session begins with a marker already on your map.
