Risk of Rain 2: What Acolyte and Enforcer Do in Hallowed Concepts

A breakdown of both survivors' named abilities, the confirmed platforms, and what remains unannounced about the expansion.

A breakdown of both survivors’ named abilities, the confirmed platforms, and what remains unannounced about the expansion.

Two new survivors are joining Risk of Rain 2 as part of the Hallowed Concepts expansion: the Acolyte, a close-range glaive user built around chained combos, and the Enforcer, a shield-carrying defensive vanguard returning from the original game. Both were shown in action alongside their named abilities, though the expansion still has no announced release date.

Quick answer: Acolyte is a melee combo survivor with Blade Slice, Sacrifice, Bola Throw, and Blade Sling. Enforcer is a defensive survivor with Trenchbroom, Steel Protection, Rally Point, and Crash Point.

Acolyte abilities in Risk of Rain 2

The Acolyte fights at close range with an energy-charged polearm and is designed around stringing attacks together rather than landing single big hits. She is introduced emerging from a thorny cage, and her kit leans on melee pressure supported by one ranged option.

AbilityRangeWhat it does
Blade SliceMeleeBasic polearm strikes
SacrificeCloseConsumes an enemy; powers her up
Bola ThrowRangedThrown projectiles
Blade SlingAreaWide spinning green attack

Sacrifice is the piece that ties the kit together. When it fires, the screen cuts to black with a flash of glowing green eyes before the fight resumes, and it appears to feed a resource that builds up as enemies die. That stored power then comes out as the large area attack, Blade Sling.

Her described strength comes with a stated cost, so the combo damage is not free. The exact resource rules have not been detailed.

Enforcer abilities and how the shield works

The Enforcer arrives in heavy armor with a riot shield and a heavy weapon. He is positioned as a defensive vanguard that mixes damage mitigation with movement, rather than a pure tank that stands still.

AbilityTypeWhat it does
TrenchbroomAttackShotgun blast
Steel ProtectionDefenseBlocks and parries hits
Rally PointArea effectDeploys a defensive dome
Crash PointMovementCharging shield slam

Steel Protection does more than absorb damage. Successful timing produces an on-screen PARRIED! confirmation, which means the block has a reactive window rather than being a passive damage reduction.

Rally Point plants a flag that raises a dome over an area, marking the Enforcer as the survivor who holds ground for a team. Crash Point is the aggressive counterpart, a forward shield slam used against stone golems that displays BLOCKED! on contact.

How the two survivors compare in a run

  • Acolyte wants to stay in melee range and keep a combo alive to build power.
  • Enforcer wants to absorb or parry incoming hits and anchor a position.
  • Acolyte’s only shown ranged tool is Bola Throw; Enforcer’s is the Trenchbroom shotgun at short range.
  • Both have a committed forward move — Blade Sling for area clear, Crash Point for closing distance.

Numbers such as damage values, cooldowns, proc coefficients, and health pools have not been published for either survivor.

Hallowed Concepts release date and platforms

Hallowed Concepts is confirmed for Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. No release date has been announced, and the reveal closed on a wishlist prompt rather than a launch window.

You can add it to your library queue from the game’s Steam store page, which is where expansion availability is reflected first on PC.

The full reveal runs just under two minutes and shows both survivors in live combat, including team fights against a glowing golem, the shrine sequence, and the closing platform card.

Until Gearbox shares a date, the ability names are the most concrete thing to plan around. Acolyte rewards players who are comfortable holding a melee combo under pressure, while Enforcer gives a team a survivor who can block, parry, and hold a spot on the map — a role Risk of Rain 2 has not had in this exact form since the first game.
