Skolopendra is the boss catch buried at the bottom of Mariana’s Veil, and it does not appear on its own. It only rises after you have opened the Obsidian Trench in Fisch and cleared out enough Veiled Charybdis to wake the crystals around you.
Quick answer: Catch four to six Veiled Charybdis inside the Obsidian Trench until the crystals turn deep red, then hook Skolopendra using Kraken Tentacle bait during Rain or Foggy weather.
Unlock the Obsidian Trench before anything else
Skolopendra lives in the Obsidian Trench, a new layer tucked underneath Mariana’s Veil. You cannot fish for it from any other layer, so the access questline is a hard requirement rather than a side activity.

Manage Trench Suppression with the white crystals
The moment you step into the trench, an environmental debuff called Trench Suppression kicks in automatically. It makes long fishing sessions inside the layer harder, which matters here because farming Charybdis is not a quick job.
Scattered around the trench are glowing white crystals. Interacting with one temporarily purges your suppression level, so keep scanning the area between casts instead of parking in one spot for the whole hunt.
Note where the nearest white crystal is before you start a Charybdis fight, so you are not hunting for one while suppressed.
Spawn Skolopendra by catching Veiled Charybdis
Skolopendra’s spawn is tied directly to Charybdis, an Apex rarity catch you can hook in the rivers inside the trench. You need roughly four to six Veiled Charybdis before the trench reacts, with the fifth catch being the usual trigger point.
The Charybdis minigame: blue portal and bottom meter
Charybdis does not use the standard reeling bar. Instead, you keep your control bar lined up near the blue portal, which stops the meter along the bottom of the screen from filling. Let that meter top out and you lose the catch.
Whirlpools are the main hazard during the fight. Getting caught by one strips your rod control, which is usually what turns a manageable catch into a failed one, so react as soon as they show up.
The red crystal spawn signal
Once you have landed enough Charybdis, every crystal in the trench shifts to deep red. A banner then runs across the top of the screen reading “Skolopendra rises from the Obsidian Trench.” That message is your confirmation that the boss has spawned and the hunt is live.
Skolopendra catch requirements: bait, weather, and season
Spawning the boss is only half of it. Skolopendra has its own catch conditions, and they show up on its Bestiary card once it appears.

Kraken Tentacle is the bait to have equipped before the boss appears, since swapping around mid-encounter wastes the window. Equip it from your Equipment Bag alongside a rod you trust for a long fight.
The Skolopendra boss minigame: dark screen and red danger zone
Skolopendra runs a dedicated boss minigame rather than a normal reeling bar. The screen darkens during the fight and a red danger zone appears, and staying out of that zone is what keeps the catch alive. Treat it as a timing fight, not a mash.
The encounter includes effects that obscure what you can see, so do not assume the standard reeling reflexes will carry you through it.
A strong late-game rod makes the fight far more forgiving. The Masterline Rod is a proven option here and is enough to land a Big Ascended variant of the catch.
How to confirm the catch worked
A successful Skolopendra catch hands you the Obsidian Chunk Bobber and fills the last slot in the Obsidian Trench Bestiary. If your Bestiary still shows a gap for the layer, the boss was not landed and you will need to farm Charybdis again to respawn it.
With the Obsidian Trench Bestiary at 100 percent and Skolopendra defeated, the Chasm-Stalker Rod becomes available to buy. It carries a new mutation, several strong passives, and a streak system that exists only on this rod, which is the reason most players push through the trench in the first place.
