Alpha Scorchhowl is the Fire wolf boss that patrols Beast Fang Ridge, and it is the roadblock for three separate objectives: the Journey quest Fists II, the Clue: Legends of Beast Fang Ridge step, and the Elite Training task Alpha Antagonist. Beating it also unlocks part of the Flameruff evolution line. The fight itself is short if you bring the right element and stop standing in fire.
Quick answer: Fight it with Water damage, keep moving out of the burning ground it leaves behind, dump your biggest hits during BREAK, then spend a guaranteed Aniipod on the single catch attempt.

Alpha Scorchhowl location in Beast Fang Ridge
Alpha Scorchhowl roams Beast Fang Ridge, in the Breezy Plains region. From Sanctum: Water to Ice, head east until you reach a cluster of three standing stones. The Alpha circles that monolith, and it spawns all day, so there is no weather or time-of-day condition to wait out.
The fastest way there is the map. Open the world map, zoom out to Breezy Plains, and select the Alpha Aniimo icon sitting over Beast Fang Ridge. The detail panel shows its level, a Medium danger rating, and the recommended elements, and you can set it as a tracked target so the quest arrow points you the whole ride over.

Wild Scorchhowl also live in the same area at levels 30 to 35, so do not confuse a regular one with the boss. The Alpha carries a warning banner over its health bar and shows up as its own map marker.

Scorchhowl is a Fire DPS, and Fire resists itself along with Grass and Ice. Water is the one pick that everything agrees on, and the in-game combat tip will even name Glacy as a good answer once the fight starts. Earth attacks also land increased damage. Leave your Fire and Grass Aniimo on the bench.
| Element | Use it? |
|---|---|
| Best option, increased damage | |
| Earth | Increased damage |
| Resisted, avoid | |
| Resisted, avoid |
Glacy is a Water/Ice healer, which means it covers the damage bonus and the sustain in one slot. That is the practical reason it keeps getting pushed as the pick for this fight rather than a pure damage dealer.
How to beat Alpha Scorchhowl

Scorchhowl stats and attacks
An Alpha is still the same species underneath, just tougher. Scorchhowl is the Nova-stage form of the Emberpup family, No. 3 in the index, and it leans hard on attack rather than bulk.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| 95 | |
| 119 | |
| Magic attack | 119 |
| Defense | 80 |
| 75 | |
| EP regen | 90 |
| BP attack | 52 |
Skills it uses in the fight
| Skill | Element | Power | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATK | 6 | Close-range basic | |
| Falling Star | 170 | Large-area slam | |
| Burn Breaker | 84 | Charged forward blast, 30 EP | |
| Fire Kick | 72 | Dodge counter, 15s | |
| Fire Bolt | 30 | Aimed fireball, Fire Debuff | |
| Lightning Kick | 40 | Dodge counter, Paralysis | |
| Pebble Kick | 40 | Dodge counter, Blockade |
Falling Star is the one to respect at 170 power, and Burn Breaker scales up the longer it charges, eating its remaining EP at maximum charge for extra damage. The three kick skills are dodge-style moves, so pressuring it constantly is safer than trading hits at point-blank range.
How to catch Alpha Scorchhowl after defeating it
An Alpha does not die when its health hits zero. It drops into a downed state and a catch countdown starts, and you get exactly one throw. Miss it and the Alpha vanishes, so this is not a throw you want to improvise.
Walk up to the downed boss, open the capture wheel, and read the displayed rate before you commit. Aniipod Ultra and the Sparkling Cube show 100 percent and guarantee the capture. Mid-tier pods read much lower against an Alpha, so an Aniipod Mega can sit around 13 percent, and a plain Aniipod even lower. Catching an Alpha also costs Primegy.

You cannot catch an Alpha while Twined, so drop out of Twining before the countdown runs down. Alpha Aniimo are born with enhanced skills, which is the main reason to burn a guaranteed pod here instead of saving it.
A failed throw does not cost you the fight. The kill still counts, the drops still land, and quest progress still ticks over.
Alpha Scorchhowl rewards, evolution, and quest credit
First clear pays out once, then the boss settles into a materials loop. Open the Alpha Chest after the fight, and spend Primegy afterwards if you want ascension and evolution materials on top of the standard drops.

- Blaze Stone x5
- Glimmer x50
- Safaris x500
- Irisalis Petal x1
- Lumin Amber: Breezy Plains x1
Repeat clears keep handing out Blaze Stone, which is exactly what the Emberpup line needs. Defeating Alpha Scorchhowl is itself one of the official evolution requirements: Flameruff becomes Scorchhowl at level 20 with a Blaze Stone, and the Alpha kill on record.
The Fists II quest reward is separate from the boss payout, and lands when you hand the objective in.
- EXP x1000
- Gold x10000
- Blaze Stone x10
- Glimmer x50
- Tenacious Fang x1
How to confirm the kill registered
The clearest confirmation comes from the quest log. Once the Alpha goes down, the Fists II objective flips from “Defeat the Alpha Scorchhowl” to “Talk to Icho about the legend of Beast Fang Ridge,” and the reward panel fires with your drops, including the Tenacious Fang. If you caught it, the Scorchhowl entry appears in your Aniilog instead.
After that, the map entry for the Alpha refreshes and you can track it again for the Elite Training task or more Blaze Stone. There is also a photo trait tied to this Alpha, so if you are filling out the field notes, catch it training alone by itself before you start the fight.
