Best katana: the Nightfall Katana and its schematic
The Nightfall Katana is the best katana in the game. It carries +5.75 Additional Damage, a 1.14x damage factor, +6.2 Block Points, and strong block regen, giving it both top raw damage and top defensive stats. Because it is an endgame craft, expect the Wind, Sound, or Flame katanas to serve as stopgaps until you get there. Before crafting it, you need to collect its schematic, which is hidden underwater near Mistfall Harbor.

The Nightfall Serpent Katana provides another endgame option. Its schematic is tied to finding a key instead of appearing at one set pickup location, making the search less reliable than the regular Nightfall route.
Other Nightfall weapons and schematics
The schematic searches for the Nightfall katanas also open access to a complete Nightfall loadout. The Gauntlet and Sickle are two of the more complicated weapons to unlock.
To begin the Nightfall Gauntlet, speak with Stonemason Tobei in Hidden Mist Village and activate three statues. At the Windy Peak cave statue by the Akaza spawn, use Breathing or Blood Demon Art skills to make a 100-hit combo. Strike the second statue 100 times with a weapon, then climb through Hidden Mist Village and hit the last statue 100 times using your fists. Speak to Tobei again to get the schematic.
Unlocking the Nightfall Sickle takes the most work. Activate the 10 concealed levers around the map to open the sealed door beneath the Mistfall Harbor bridge, where the schematic is located. Follow a set sequence through the levers to avoid losing your place. The Nightfall Axe and Mace, Scythe, and Claws also occupy separate hidden locations, allowing you to complete the set once you learn their routes.
Confirm the katana is yours and equipped
Whether you buy the weapon or obtain it as a drop, it is placed in your inventory and the relevant Wen, Points, or Ores leave your supplies immediately. Equip it from the inventory; seeing the blade appear on your character confirms that the transaction succeeded.
From that point, sword mastery accrues only while you fight with the equipped katana, and its skills show up under the Weapon skills tab of the Skill Tree, opened with the M key. If a blade’s abilities are not listed on the first screen, check the other tabs, since Breathing, Blood Demon Art, Weapon, Fighting Style, and Clan skills are all separated.
