Tyrande Whisperwind is the High Priestess of Elune and one of the leaders of the night elves, and she keeps a fixed spot in the night elf capital rather than wandering between terraces. If you are running a priest class quest, chasing a faction leader for an achievement, or just sightseeing, she is always in the same building.

Quick answer: Tyrande Whisperwind stands inside the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus. Take the portal at Rut’theran Village at the base of Teldrassil, cross the Temple Gardens, and enter the temple.

Tyrande Whisperwind’s exact location in Darnassus

Darnassus sits in western Teldrassil and is laid out as a ring of terraces around a central tree and lake. The Temple of the Moon is the home of the Sisters of Elune, and it is also where Malfurion Stormrage, several class and profession trainers, and a set of portals are found. Tyrande is inside that temple, surrounded by other priestesses.

She does not patrol. Once you are inside the temple interior and following the ramp upward, she is the only night elf with the High Priestess title above her head.

Route from the Rut’theran Village portal to the Temple of the Moon

Get to Rut’theran Village, the small settlement at the base of Teldrassil. Teldrassil is an island off northern Kalimdor, so you either fly in or arrive by boat.

Step into the glowing portal in Rut’theran Village. It drops you directly into Darnassus, and the same portal takes you back down to the village later.

Head across the Temple Gardens, the central terrace that connects to everything else by bridge. Keep moving along the wide path toward the large domed building with the tall entrance.

Pass through the temple grounds. You will recognize them by the reflecting pools and trees framing the courtyard in front of the temple doors.

Inside, follow the spiral ramp upward instead of stopping on the ground floor. The trainers and vendors are spread along the way, so ignore them and keep climbing.

Darnassus is Alliance territory, so a Horde character has no friendly way in through the portal.

How to confirm you found the right NPC

Target her and check the nameplate. It reads Tyrande Whisperwind <High Priestess of Elune>, her level shows as ??, and her faction is Darnassus. That combination rules out the other Sisters of Elune standing nearby.

What Tyrande gives you once you reach her

She hands out one quest and finishes two others. The quest she starts is Favored of Elune, a priest class quest for night elves that becomes available at level 8. Turning it in awards the Moon Staff of Elune and 2,300 experience.

Beyond that, the temple is a useful stop in its own right. It holds class and profession trainers plus portals, so the trip is rarely wasted even if you only came to tick a faction leader off a list.

Which game versions still have Darnassus

The city as described here is intact in Classic and in the era of the game before the Burning of Teldrassil. That event destroyed Darnassus, and what remains of it is no longer a functioning capital, so the Temple of the Moon route only applies where the city is still standing.

If you are logged into a version where the night elf capital is still on the map, the walk is short and the destination never changes. Portal in, cross the gardens, climb the ramp, and she is there.
