The first proper monster sighting in Silent Hill: Townfall is not a fight. It is a short, contained panic that plays out inside an elevator, followed by the game’s first real look at the town of St. Amelia under fog. The sequence doubles as an introduction to the CRTV, the handheld screen Simon Ordell uses to pick up unstable signals, and to the corporate disaster that the whole story circles around.
Quick answer: The first monster appears when the elevator doors open onto a red-lit hallway. Hold the close-door button until the doors shut, then ride down to the hotel lobby.
CRTV tuning controls before the encounter
The segment opens in a red-lit room with the CRTV held up in first person. The screen is pure static until you adjust the dial, at which point a blurry image of a hallway resolves. That handheld pocket television is the game’s enemy-detection tool, and it is the reason the whole game is played in first person — the display has to be something you physically look at rather than a corner of a HUD.
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| L2 / R2 | Adjust Tuning |
| Square | Quick Tuning |
| Cross | Store Signal |
Store Signal is worth using once the hallway image sharpens, since the CRTV is how you track what is moving nearby for the rest of the game.
Elevator escape sequence timeline
After the tuning beat, the camera moves to a red-lit corridor and the elevator doors open so you can step inside. The panel has four buttons — floors 1 and 2, G for ground, and B for basement — which is the only navigation choice in the whole stretch.

When the doors open again onto a dark hallway, a tall humanoid silhouette is standing at the far end under the red lights. It starts moving toward the elevator while you jab the close-door button. The hand doing the jabbing is not Simon’s — it has blue, green, and white painted nails and a white bandage around the right wrist, a small detail that matters because the game splits control between two characters.
| Beat | What happens |
|---|---|
| Tuning | CRTV static resolves into a hallway image |
| Boarding | Doors open in a red corridor; you step in |
| Sighting | Tall silhouette waits at the hall’s end |
| Escape | Repeated button presses close the doors |
| Descent | Car shakes, lights cut out and return |
| Arrival | Doors open on a lit hotel lobby lounge |
The ride down is the loudest part. The car rattles hard, the two overhead lights flicker off and back on, and the character’s breathing stays audible through the drop.

The escape is confirmed when the doors open onto a quiet hotel lobby lounge under normal lighting. The red glow has vanished, the shaking has ended, and nothing comes after you.

Stepping outside: The CEG protest signs in St. Amelia
A white interaction dot appears on a set of frosted glass double doors at the far end of the lobby. Interacting brings up a confirmation prompt — “Are you sure you want to open the door?” with Yes and No — and choosing Yes triggers the cutscene. The man who walks out is a Black man with glasses and a short beard, wearing a blue CHAPMAN ENERGY GROUP cap and a green CEG puffer vest over a beige long-sleeve shirt and jeans.
Outside, the square is empty and thick with fog. Discarded banners lie on the ground and a monument is buried under handmade placards aimed at CEG.
- LET THE TRUTH OUT
- WHATEVER HEART THIS TOWN HAD HAS STOPPED
- THIS TOWN IS OURS
- A CRIME ON OUR COMMUNITY
- WE NEED THE TRUTH
- WE NEED JUSTICE

The walk that follows is quiet. Cobblestone streets, shuttered buildings, no people, and fog thick enough that the far end of any street disappears.

The Haldane Hotel and the appendages in the sky
The sequence ends at THE HALDANE HOTEL, a landmark on the town square with a banner strung from its balcony reading “CEG WIDOWS DEMAND JUSTICE”. As the camera holds on the building, a low rumble spreads through the town and enormous dark, tentacle-like appendages rise into the fog behind the hotel while the character watches.

Nothing attacks at this point. The hallway silhouette and the skyline appendages are two separate scales of threat shown back to back, and neither one is something you are equipped to fight.
What the sequence signals about Townfall’s design
Everything in the stretch points at the same design philosophy. There is no weapon, no dodge, and no way to confront the silhouette — the only correct answer is to shut the doors. That matches how the rest of the game plays, with scarce resources, melee tools like planks and pipes, a weak block, and stealth as the default response to anything dangerous. Control alternates between Simon Ordell, who is at least armed, and Zoe, who is not and has to hide and throw objects to slip past enemies.
The CEG banners do the narrative work. Chapman Energy Group’s industrial disaster is what emptied St. Amelia, and the protest signs plant that before a single line of dialogue explains it. Developed by Screen Burn Interactive on Unreal Engine 5 and set in Scotland in 1996, the game is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Windows on September 24, 2026, with Deluxe Edition pre-orders opening play 48 hours earlier on September 22.
