The Obsidian Trench is the money location worth rebuilding your loadout around right now in Fisch. Its bestiary is stacked with high-value sharks and marlins, and the ceiling scales hard with buffs, weather events, and sell-rate bonuses. The gap between a casual run and a fully buffed one there is not small — it is roughly four times the payout for under twice the fish.

Quick answer: Fish the Obsidian Trench at night with Aurora Borealis active. A basic buff run sold 90 fish for 9,102,232 C$; a fully stacked run sold 166 fish for 39,462,847 C$.

Obsidian Trench payouts: two tested sell sessions

Two runs at the same location, with the only real difference being how many multipliers were stacked on top. Both ended at the Totem sell interface, which is where the final number is confirmed.

RunConditionsFish soldTotal
Simple buffsNight, Aurora Borealis909,102,232 C$
Full buffsNight of the Luminous, Aurora Borealis, Blue Whale Migration16639,462,847 C$

The second total also included a Gold Coin sell bonus, so it is not a pure like-for-like on fishing power alone. Even so, the per-fish average climbs from roughly 101,000 C$ to about 238,000 C$ once the full stack and the event weather are running together.

What spawns in the Obsidian Trench

The trench bestiary runs from cheap filler up to a Mythical, and the money sits almost entirely at the top end. Shatterjaw Sharks and Magma-Glass Marlins are the catches that carry a session.

  • Puffer, Scorpia Scorpionfish, Ash-Cloud Angelfish
  • Obsidian Cavetooth, Cinder-Crust Gar, Tectonic Toadfish
  • Basalt Behemoth, Magma-Glass Marlin, Shatter-Tooth Shark
  • Skolopendra and Veiled Charybdis
  • Shatterjaw Shark, the Mythical and the main payday

Buff setups used for each run

Simple buff loadout

The lighter run leaned on luck potions and a solid rod rather than event stacking. That meant Blessed, Lucky+ IV, All Seasons, Lucky V, Lure IV, and an Exalted Relic, alongside level 15 Charms, an Aurora Totem, and Fish Head bait. The rod was a Halibut Harpoon carrying Starforged, Sanctified, and Paradise.

Full stacked loadout

The second run piled on everything available. Wrath, Blue Moon, Lucky+ IV, Depth, Endurance, Fortune, Swiftness, Fruity Blessing, and Blessed were all active, backed by a Sovereign Relic, Fortuitous and Prismatic, Glowworm bait, and the Abyssal Alignment telescope boost.

Timing matters more than the potion list. Lining the stack up with Night of the Luminous, Aurora Borealis, and a Blue Whale Migration is what pushed the catch pool toward mutated and oversized sharks.

Mutations and the Gold Coin sell bonus

Sorting the backpack by value is the fastest way to see whether a session actually landed. In the stacked run, the single best catch was a Sparkling Giant Shatterjaw Shark at 645,288 C$, with several Shiny Giant variants sitting above 500,000 C$ each. A handful of those catches is worth more than dozens of clean, unmutated fish.

The last multiplier is applied at the point of sale rather than on the water. A Gold Coin gives a +25% sell rate bonus for 30 seconds, so it should be activated right before dumping a full backpack, not during fishing. That short window is what turned the 166-fish haul into 39,462,847 C$.

How other money spots compare after the balance changes

Several long-standing grinds were touched by recent balancing, which is part of why the trench looks so strong. Here is where the other tested methods landed.

Forsaken Shore after the price adjustment

Balance Changes version 1.95.0 Livepatch cut the Pirate Captain’s Goldfish base price by 35% while raising the Captain’s Goldfish by roughly 18%. Filtering the inventory for CAPTAIN and comparing against pre-update values is the quickest way to see how much your stock lost.

Even now, the pond can deliver strong results. Using Truffle Worm bait, luck buffs, and the Olympian Godbreaker rod, one session yielded 224 fish worth 10,423,271 C$—a solid haul, though no longer the highest.

Living Garden

Run side by side against Forsaken Shores using an Aurora Totem and Ember Berries, the Living Garden came out ahead on fewer catches thanks to Petal Rays, Diamond Daisies, and Leafscale Lemon Sharks. Fewer fish, higher average value.

Toxic Boil in Toxic Grove

Toxic Boil raises the odds of obtaining Blight Idols and Rotted Seeds to twice their normal rate. To spawn it, obtain a Noxious Catalyst by giving the Toxic Grove NPC 3 Lotuses and 3 Toxic Jellymass. Harvest planted Violet and Cyan Lotuses in the Living Garden for the Lotuses, then use Garbage bait to reel in Jellymass as trash.

Brine Storm in the Desolate Deep

Brine Storm is the density play. Triggered with a Brine Storm Totem or a disturbance at the Brine Pool, it pulls in exotics and secrets such as Stormgazers, Globe Jellyfish, and Caustic Starwyrms on Ascended Larva bait. A three-minute window returned 8,460,781 C$ from only 36 fish, with a Sparkling Big Acidic Caustic Starwyrm alone worth over 1,000,000 C$.

How to confirm your Obsidian Trench run is on pace

Two checks tell you whether the stack is working. Open the backpack and sort by value — if your top catches are Giant, Shiny, or Sparkling Shatterjaw Sharks in the 500,000 C$ range rather than plain ones, the luck and mutation buffs are landing. Then watch the Totem sell interface, which prints the fish count and the exact C$ total when you confirm the sale.

Activate the Gold Coin before opening the sell confirmation, not after. The bonus lasts 30 seconds, so a full backpack needs to be sold inside that window.

Treat the trench as an endgame stop rather than a first destination. Without the potion stack, relic, charms, and favourable night weather, the payout collapses toward what the older grinds already produce with far less setup — but with everything running at once, nothing else tested comes close.
