Silent Hill 2 Remake: How to Get the Dog Ending

The Dog Ending is one of the joke endings in the Silent Hill 2 remake, and it swaps the game’s tense finale for a short comedic cutscene. It only becomes available after you finish the game once, and reaching it comes down to grabbing two hidden items and opening the correct door inside Lakeview Hotel. You never touch the point system that decides the serious endings, so nothing about how you heal, fight, or interact with Maria matters here.

Quick answer: Start a New Game Plus, collect the Paw and Bone Broken Key Parts, combine them into the Dog Key, then open the Lakeview Hotel Observation Room instead of Room 312.

New Game Plus is required

You cannot get the Dog Ending on a first playthrough. New Game Plus unlocks after you complete Silent Hill 2 once, and only in that mode do the areas holding both key parts open up. Start a new run and pick the New Game Plus option before you go hunting for anything.

Both Broken Key Parts are missable if you rush past their areas, so grab them as you reach each location rather than backtracking later.

Where to find both Broken Key Parts

Two halves make the Dog Key: a paw-shaped part on the east side of South Vale and a bone-shaped part on the west side. Both sit inside dog-themed spots, which makes them easy to identify once you are in the right building.

Paw part: Big Jay’s Pet Center (East South Vale)

Early in New Game Plus, after your first enemy in Eastern South Vale, head up Neely Street to Big Jay’s Pet Center and go inside. This building is only accessible in New Game Plus.

Move into the back office and pick up the first Broken Key Part. It carries a small plastic dog paw, so it is hard to mistake for anything else.

Bone part: Katz Street doghouse (West South Vale)

Continue until you escape Blue Creek Apartments and meet Maria on the west side of South Vale. This area can only be explored after you unlock the Jacks Inn gate, so pick up the Gate Key first.

Follow Munsom Street toward Katz Street, then check the space separating the two abandoned houses for a white fence whose gate bears a dog bone symbol.

Go through the gate, walk to the back of the yard, and take the second Broken Key Part from the doghouse.

Combine the parts into the Dog Key

With both halves in your inventory, open the Key Items menu and combine them. That produces the complete Dog Key, the bone-and-paw item you use at the hotel.

Open the Observation Room instead of Room 312

Push through Lakeview Hotel and solve the Music Box Puzzle to get the key you need for the upper floors.

Go to the hotel’s third floor. When you would normally enter Room 312, ignore it and head to the Observation Room, which is right next door and marked by double doors on the left.

Use the Dog Key on the Observation Room door. Unlocking it triggers the Dog Ending cutscene immediately and skips the remaining boss fights, so you will know it worked when the comedic scene plays instead of the finale.

What happens in the Dog Ending

James enters the Observation Room expecting a confrontation and instead finds a Shiba Inu wearing a headset, working a bank of control panels. The scene implies the dog has been steering everything in Silent Hill. James drops to his knees in disbelief while the dog gives him a lick, then the credits roll over a lighthearted song.

James speaks Polish in the remake’s version of this scene, referencing the original 2001 ending’s Japanese dialogue and honoring Bloober Team’s Polish roots. Unlocking this ending grants the associated trophy, with no additional hidden reward attached to it.
