How to Get the Dungeons 2 Hero and Twisted Capes in Minecraft Java and Bedrock

Mojang attached five capes to Minecraft Dungeons II, and the marketing around them has blurred an important line. Three of those capes never leave the spin-off. The other two, the Hero Cape and the Twisted Cape, land on your regular Minecraft character in both Java and Bedrock Edition, provided every game involved sits on the same Microsoft account.

Quick answer: Play the first Minecraft Dungeons, then use that same Microsoft account to sign in to Dungeons II by December 31, 2026, and you will receive the Hero Cape. Pre-order Dungeons II to get the Twisted Cape.

Which Minecraft Dungeons II capes carry over to Java and Bedrock

Mojang laid out the full cosmetic lineup for the sequel ahead of its September 29, 2026 launch, covering capes, pets, and hero skins. The cape list runs to five entries, but only two of them were confirmed for vanilla Minecraft.

Owning a cape inside Dungeons II does not automatically put it on your Minecraft skin. Mojang only committed to bringing the Hero Cape and Twisted Cape across, so treat the remaining three as cosmetics for a different game.

Hero Cape requirements and the December 31 deadline

The Hero Cape is a loyalty reward rather than a purchase. It is the crimson and gold drape from the first game, and it goes to players who put time into the original Minecraft Dungeons and then return for the sequel. Nothing about it requires the Deluxe Edition.

Three conditions have to line up:

Recorded playtime in Minecraft Dungeons, the original game.
Sign in to Minecraft Dungeons II no later than December 31, 2026.
The same Microsoft account across Dungeons, Dungeons II, and Minecraft.
An internet connection, since Mojang’s systems confirm the playtime server-side.

Identify the Microsoft account connected to your Minecraft Dungeons playtime. If it differs from the account you use for Minecraft, the cape will be delivered somewhere inaccessible to you, with no option to transfer it.

Launch Minecraft Dungeons on that account and play. The amount does not matter, but the session needs to be online so the playtime registers.

Open Minecraft Dungeons II once it releases on September 29, 2026, signed in on the same account. Couch co-op on someone else’s console is fine as long as you sign in as yourself rather than playing on their profile.

Once Dungeons II shows the Hero Cape as yours, start Minecraft Java or Bedrock Edition on that account. The cape then appears among your Minecraft capes.

Twisted Cape: pre-order before the September 29 launch

The Twisted Cape is the pre-order bonus, themed around the Sift, the new dimension the sequel is built around. It arrives bundled with the Twisted Chicken pet and rift-styled Steve and Alex skins for Dungeons II. The store offer closes the day before release, on September 28, 2026, after which the cape is out of reach.

Place the pre-order before the offer expires. Digital orders go through the Minecraft Dungeons II store page, and a physical copy counts too.

If you pre-ordered a boxed copy, find the code inside the packaging and redeem it on your platform first, through xbox.com/redeem, ec.nintendo.com/redeem, or the Redeem Code option under your PlayStation Store profile. Digital buyers skip this entirely.

After launch, sign into Minecraft Dungeons II with the Microsoft account tied to the pre-order and confirm that the bonus items have arrived.

Open Minecraft Java or Bedrock on the same account to pick the cape up there. If you also qualify for the Hero Cape, both show up together.

How to confirm the capes unlocked in Minecraft

Both rewards appear in Minecraft Dungeons II first and flow outward from there. Once the cape is visible and equippable in the sequel, the grant reaches your Minecraft account.

On Bedrock, open the Dressing Room from the main menu and check your cape options. On Java, sign in on the official Minecraft site, open your profile, and look under the Minecraft: Java Edition section where skins and capes are managed. The cape shows up in your list when the reward has synced.

Checking Minecraft before Dungeons II has confirmed the reward will show nothing, and Mojang notes that these confirmations can be delayed or run into technical problems. Sign in to Dungeons II first, then check Minecraft.

The three capes that stay inside Minecraft Dungeons II

The remaining capes are worth knowing about, mainly so you do not spend money expecting them on your Minecraft skin. None of the three has been confirmed for Java or Bedrock.

Soul Cape (Deluxe Edition)

Owners of the Minecraft Dungeons II Deluxe Edition receive the Soul Cape, the Blub pet, and dark-golden versions of Valorie, Kellen, Ren, and Flores. The cape is already in your Dungeons II inventory when you launch the game for the first time, and it remains there.

Corrupted Creeper Cape (promotional)

This one is being handed out through promotions rather than purchases. Physical cards carrying codes were distributed in person at Gamescom, and an online watchtime quest is running on TikTok and Twitch from September 21, 12:00 PM PST through September 26, 11:59 PM PST. Three minutes on a Game Rewards-enabled Minecraft stream on TikTok, or fifteen minutes on any livestream in the Minecraft category on Twitch, completes it. The reward then turns up in your Twitch inventory or TikTok notifications and is redeemed inside Dungeons II.

Special Cape (method not revealed)

The fifth cape has been shown but not explained. Mojang listed it with no acquisition route at all, saying only that more information is coming. No official date or method is confirmed for it yet.

If your only interest is a new cape hanging off your Minecraft character, the practical checklist is short. Confirm the account, get the pre-order in before September 28 if you want the Twisted Cape, and make sure your original Dungeons playtime is on the same account before you touch the sequel.
