The Underpass Resonant is one of the trickier boss runs in Control Resonant, mostly because the quest hides three keys behind unmarked doors inside the Astral Plane. Objective markers stop helping once you step through the gap, so the whole detour comes down to knowing which direction to leave the central column each time.

Quick answer: All three Astral Keys branch off the same locked door. Facing away from it, take the right-hand path for key one, the straight path to the far end for key two, and the second floating platform on the left for key three.

What you need before starting The Underpass Resonant

The Underpass sits late in the recommended zone order, after Downtown, Central, the Evacuation Zone and the West Incursion Zone. You will lean on the Shift ability constantly inside the Astral Plane, so the quest assumes you already earned it during The Incursion Fault.

The mission objective list runs in a fixed order:

  • See where the spire leads.
  • Investigate the Astral Plane.
  • Find the key and unlock the door.
  • Use the key to open door number two.
  • Find the key and unlock the third door.
  • Defeat The Physicist.

Spend time raising your Power Level before you commit. Weapon form upgrades, Talent Points and any Health or Power Upgrade Points you have banked all make the enemy packs between the keys far less punishing.

How to reach the Astral Plane entrance in the Underpass

Fast travel to The Spire if you unlocked that point during the Underpass Fault. It drops you close to the entrance and skips a long platforming stretch.
If The Spire is not available, follow the quest marker on foot. The route crosses elevated red platforms, tents and concrete pillars, with gaps you clear by jumping between glowing markers.

Expect interruptions on the way up. The pillar platforms topped with red carpet and office desks can spawn flying enemies and an Apex Hunt objective. Clearing it is optional for this quest, but it does feed your zone rank.

At the top, deal with the enemy group guarding the entrance, then move through the gap behind them. Passing through it places you inside the Astral Plane and starts the key hunt.

All three Astral Key locations in the Underpass Resonant quest

Inside the Astral Plane, head to the main column and run to the far end of it. The door waiting there is locked, and behind each door you open sits another locked door. Every key branches from that same spot, so orient yourself with your back to the door before choosing a direction.

None of the keys appear on your minimap. The doors are marked, the Astral Keys are not, so treat the directions below as your only navigation aid.

KeyDirection (back to the door)Landmark
FirstRight-hand pathSecond spike-trigger box

ThirdSecond platform on the leftTeleporting box

First Astral Key: The right-hand path

Turn your back to the door and take the path on the right. Tankier enemy types show up along this route, and they hit harder than the packs outside, so clear them before pushing forward rather than trying to run past.

Advance to the floor boxes that trigger the spikes. At the second box, turn right and sprint forward; the first Astral Key lies at the far end of this route. Bring it to the main column, use it to open the door, and the second locked door is directly behind the one you just opened.

Second Astral Key: The chair and TV drop

From the new door, face away again and run straight to the very end of the path. You will need to clear a gap with a jump, after which a group of enemies, a spike section and a second enemy group stand between you and the key.

Once the area is clear, jump up ahead and look for the chair and TV. Use Shift to drop down twice from there, then jump across to the opposite side to pick up the key. Head back and open the second door, which reveals a third locked door.

Third Astral Key: The teleporting box chase

With your back to the third door, move forward until platforms appear on your left. Skip the first one entirely. Float and jump to the second platform instead, which is where this route actually begins.

From here you chase a box that keeps teleporting away from you. Following it spawns an enemy group further along, so deal with them before continuing. Past that fight you will pass a Health Upgrade, and the third Astral Key sits just beyond it. Sweep the area for resources before you walk back, since there is no reason to return once the boss arena opens.

Confirming the doors are open and starting The Physicist fight

Each key works on exactly one door. Using an Astral Key plays the unlock and reveals the next barrier behind it, which is the clearest sign you picked up the correct key rather than a resource drop. Your objective text also advances from “find the key and unlock the door” to the second and third variants.

After the third door opens, the path ahead is clear and walking forward begins the Resonant encounter against The Physicist. There are no more detours between that door and the arena.

Underpass Resonant rewards

Beating the boss hands you a choice between two Combat Abilities, plus a crafting recipe that goes straight into your build.

RewardType
SpikeCombat Ability (choose one)
Astral RebukeCombat Ability (choose one)
Untapped Golden EarringsArtifact Recipe

Only one of the two abilities is available per run, though New Game Plus lets you equip multiple abilities from the same boss together. The kill also counts toward the Resonant trophy and achievement list, and it triggers another Resonant Cycle cutscene, bringing back every enemy you have killed in a slightly stronger state. Restock, upgrade and re-check your Power Level before you head into the Unknown.
