In 7.1, “A Rekviem for the Underworld” finally brings the Traveler face-to-face with Ronova, the Ruler of Death, after the crimson rift spent the whole version looming over Teyvat. The Archon Quest concludes with a two-stage snowbound boss battle, a Fatui weapon thought impossible to construct, and a final scene that pointedly leaves the Arbiter of the Heavenly Principles’ fate unconfirmed.
Quick answer: Ronova is fought twice. Pierro destroys the Eye of the Fatui to strip her divine authority, then seals her inside a crystalline structure — but the dialogue afterward never confirms her death.
The material below reveals Chapter VII’s ending, including its last cutscene and the epilogue check-ins.
How to reach the Ronova fight in Version 7.1
The battle sits inside Chapter VII: Act III and Act IV, both added as permanent content in 7.1. Each requires Adventure Rank 18 and a completed Chapter VII: Act II, “Wraith’s Nocturne.” The two acts unlock in sequence rather than side by side, so plan on running both in one stretch. Clearing the new Archon Quest content pays out 620 Primogems.
Act II is the theater sequence that sets all of this up. Ronova appears in a red cloak, the sky turns into a crimson void full of eyes, and she warns the Traveler to stay out of Snezhnaya’s business. Then she notices the unconscious Paimon, decides “that thing” is leaving with her, and throws the Traveler aside with crimson energy. Pierro walks in through the doorway before anything is settled.

The Traveler refuses to let her depart, channels Electro, and begins with “Who says… there’ll be a next time?” Their exchange cycles through Electro, Geo, Pyro and Anemo infusions until Ronova forms a red eye-shaped barrier and disappears. Act II ends when the Tsaritsa claims the frozen throne.

Add to Google Preferences →Ronova boss fight: both phases and the name change
The fight is built around the Fatui’s plan, and the boss’s display name tells you whether that plan has landed yet. Watch the health bar label — it changes between halves.
| Phase | Boss name | State |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ronova, Arbiter of the Heavenly Principles | Full divine authority |
| Interlude | — | Traveler pulled into the afterlife |
| 2 | Ronova, Paralogion’s Outcast | Authority stripped, Pierro assists |
Phase 1: Divine punishment in the snow
Ronova arrives in the snowy plaza ahead of schedule and at the wrong site, which sends Mitya scrambling to have locals evacuated. Dainsleif goads her, she declares that higher divine punishment is in order, and a crimson vortex detonates across the plaza. Combat here is spacing work — red, blood-like blade waves sweep the arena between elemental strikes, and your openings come right after each wave finishes resolving.

You cannot win Phase 1. Dainsleif restrains her using abyssal chains, and the Traveler attacks with an elemental blade; a red blast knocks them away, a spatial shockwave throws the party apart, and Ronova ends the confrontation herself.
Escape the afterlife: the platforming interlude
A gigantic eye attack engulfs the Traveler, changing the objective to “Escape the afterlife.” There are no enemies to fight during this section. Follow the Seal of Life and the regional memory prompts; rising light rings that teleport you and speed boosts provide the ascent. The gates successively call upon regions the Traveler has altered — Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine — before the highest platform points back to Snezhnaya. Enter the portal there to leave.
You wake on the snow surrounded by your fallen companions with Ronova still floating overhead, threatening to destroy your body outright since you have grown too comfortable with death.

The stalling segment
A flashback lays out the strategy: Pierro told the Traveler to occupy Ronova until the proper moment. What follows is an exchange of words instead of blows. Ronova says Celestia is interested in Descenders and invokes the Third Descender’s remains as proof of divine supremacy. She also claims she can simply await Asmoday and the Heavenly Principles’ awakening, then wipe out Snezhnaya. The Traveler counters that Ronova is bound by far more laws than any mortal, compares her with Paimon, and calls her a mass of shackles designed to control humanity. Later, the Traveler acknowledges that thoughts of Paimon made the response more severe than intended.

Phase 2 and the sealing array
Pierro walks in holding the finished Eye of the Fatui, a glowing purple crystalline Delusion, with a colossal red eye watching from above. Ronova spells out the price — no mortal body can hold that kind of power, and she points to the curse of immortality she placed on him as the proof. Pierro answers that the Fatui will pay any price to look upon the gods.

He destroys it regardless. Purple power engulfs him as the beam climbs skyward, and his burst keeps a gigantic red bird projection at bay while the Traveler speeds along the temporal pathway for a plunging attack. A focused light ray pierces the crimson sky, making Ronova cover her face. Her authority fails at that instant, and the health bar reappears under the name Ronova, Paralogion’s Outcast, with Pierro now fighting at your side.
The finishing blow plays out in a cutscene. Pierro summons a colossal mechanical spear, challenges Ronova over the Curse of Immortality she cast five hundred years earlier, and drives the crystalline weapon through her at close range. The detonation drops him beside the broken Eye, while a Geo construct protects the rest of the party from the crater. He follows by activating the ultimate sealing array, trapping her inside an immense crystalline formation.
Why the stalling worked: six Gnoses and slowed time
Pierro’s opportunity came from elsewhere, not from the battlefield. Inside a frozen palace, Rhinedottir — Gold — faces the Tsaritsa, Anastasya, and recognizes that something is wrong. Six Gnoses float around the room, their green beams joining to form a containment cube. Rhinedottir determines that the Cryo Archon is decelerating time with Cryo energy strengthened by all six Gnoses, and points out that she was meant to receive those Gnoses. The Tsaritsa responds only with a smile.
The same conversation settles who pays for the fight. Rhinedottir agrees to Celestia’s directive to resurrect the dead once Ronova’s authority is reclaimed, and Naberius later appears by hologram to raise the question of the Tsaritsa overstepping her own authority. Back in Snezhnaya, Mitya and the rest of the fallen companions wake up as the resurrection takes effect.
Is Ronova dead at the end of Genshin Impact 7.1?
The game confirms her defeat, but never confirms her death. During the aftermath, Dainsleif directly asks Pierro if the finishing attack killed the Ruler of Death; Pierro refuses to give a definite answer. He allows that she could have escaped without notice, says the injuries she suffered would be grave and irreversible, and cautions that she might return seeking revenge. The Curse of Immortality remains active.
Two additional mysteries remain. Wounded, Ronova withdraws to a sky pillar, coughs and says she now understands what dying feels like, then breaks the celestial spire and mentions “my parting gift” before dissolving into dim light and feathers. It looks like a farewell, but neither confirms her death, and the gift’s effects are never revealed. She appears as well in another scene with no established timeline, allowing it to function as a flashback, a memory, or preparation for a future event.
Her inclusion as a repeatable Weekly Boss does not establish her story status. Trounce Domains are separate from quest chronology.
The ending: Project Mistilteinn and the celestial nail check-ins
A narrative screen wraps up the immediate events. Project Mistilteinn’s restrictions disappear, an audience with the Tsaritsa comes next, and Paimon and the Traveler point out the ceremony taking place on the steps beyond the Armory Palace. Outside the city, Dainsleif explains the broader implications — Pierro’s role in the scheme and the fact that the god responsible for the Cataclysm can no longer be treated as untouchable.
The epilogue then becomes a tour of Teyvat. A luminous celestial nail remains suspended overhead while you visit each region to learn what it signifies.
| Location | Who you speak to | Subject |
|---|---|---|
| Snezhnaya Nail, by the train tracks | Alyosha | The glowing nail overhead |
| Dragonspine, Skyfrost Nail | Albedo | Anomalous resonance |
| The Chasm | Xiao | Adepti and human investigations |
| Inazuma | Yae Miko | Fortune slip, pillar of light off Narukami Island |
| Sumeru desert | Dehya and Candace | Patrols watching the sky anomaly |
| Natlan | Mavuika | Reassurance about threats ahead |
The story segment ends once the sealing array scene gives way to the aftermath discussion with Paimon, Dainsleif and Pierro, after which the quest log directs you to the audience with the Tsaritsa. The nail check-ins become available throughout Teyvat afterward.
Replaying Ronova as a Weekly Boss
Ronova is now a Weekly Boss, and her Trounce Domain follows the standard rules shared by the others.
- Revitalizing the Trounce Blossom costs 60 Original Resin.
- Three cost-halving opportunities per week drop a claim to 30 Resin, shared across every Trounce Domain rather than three per boss.
- Each domain allows one reward claim per week, which means the discounted claims apply to three separate bosses.
- The reset takes place every Monday at 4:00 AM server time, and that includes the half-price counter.
- Trounce Blossoms cannot be claimed with Condensed Resin.
At Adventure Rank 40, the Adventurer Handbook lets you Quick Challenge Trounce Domains you have not unlocked in Single-Player Mode, and AR 40 is also the rank that opens the Lv. 70 difficulty tier.
Both the quest-completion reward bundle available during its window and the limited-time Epilogue that follows it end at 2026/11/03 14:59 (UTC+8). The Weekly Boss remains accessible afterward, but the Epilogue does not.
Once the epilogue is done, Ronova stops being a wall in the story and becomes a weekly stop on the farming route — with a curse still hanging over Khaenri’ah and a parting gift nobody has opened yet.
