Disney Dreamlight Valley: How to Complete A Halloween Invasion

Everything needed to clear Oogie Boogie's first Season of Scares quest, from the Strange Mirror to the 20 Fear Essence handoff.

Everything needed to clear Oogie Boogie’s first Season of Scares quest, from the Strange Mirror to the 20 Fear Essence handoff.

A Halloween Invasion is the opening quest in Oogie Boogie’s six-part Season of Scares chain in Disney Dreamlight Valley. It runs on a limited window, and starting it is what locks in your access to every follow-up quest that eventually recruits Oogie Boogie as a permanent villager. The quest itself is short but layered, with a mirror portal, a mini-game, and a valley-wide cleanup packed into one sitting.

Quick answer: Talk to Scrooge, enter the Strange Mirror in his store, gather 10 Fear Essence from Whack-a-Pumpkin, spin the Lucky Wheel, clear 7 bugs and 8 pumpkins, then deliver 20 Fear Essence.

Requirements to start A Halloween Invasion

The quest will not appear in your log until a handful of early-game unlocks are done. These are all things most existing saves already have.

  • Peaceful Meadow biome unlocked
  • Scrooge McDuck’s Store built and open
  • Chez Remy unlocked
  • Goofy unlocked (his house is a required stop later)

With those in place, update the game and check your in-game Mail. The letter is what flags the event and points you toward Scrooge’s Store.

The deadline that matters: November 4, 2026

A Halloween Invasion is a limited-time event quest. It leaves the game on November 4, 2026, and that date is the entry cutoff for the entire Oogie Boogie chain, not a completion deadline.

If you accept the first quest before it disappears, it stays in your quest log and every follow-up mission remains completable afterward. The six weekly quests unlock on their own schedule, and you are not required to finish each one during its release week.

Finishing the sixth quest permanently unlocks Oogie Boogie as a villager. Zero also becomes a permanent companion somewhere along the chain, though the specific week has not been published. Full rules for the event live on Gameloft’s Season of Scares page.

Part one: Reach Oogie Boogie through the Strange Mirror

Head to Scrooge McDuck’s Store, wherever you have placed it in the valley, and speak with Scrooge inside. He explains that something odd has turned up in the shop.
Go up to the mezzanine level of the store and interact with the Strange Mirror, which is glowing green. Inspecting it shatters the glass into green fragments and opens a portal.

Enter the Strange Mirror. Saying Oogie Boogie’s name in front of it is what frees him from the mirror world, so the cutscene here is the actual trigger for the rest of the event.
In the mirror realm, take the staircase along the room’s left wall, then speak with Oogie Boogie beside the large Lucky Wheel.

Part two: Fix the Lucky Wheel with 10 Fear Essence

Walk up to the Lucky Wheel and try to interact with the crank. Nothing happens, because the wheel is broken and needs Fear Essence to run.

Speak to Oogie Boogie again, then follow him down to the fenced arena in the middle of the lower level. He introduces the Whack-a-Pumpkin mini-game there.
With the Royal Pickaxe equipped, strike the switch at the game area’s right edge. The giant dice can restart the game whenever you want another round.
Run at each glowing pumpkin target as it pops up and smash it with the pickaxe. You need 10 Fear Essence in total, and since not every target drops one, expect to replay the mini-game at least once.
Carry the Fear Essence back upstairs to Oogie Boogie, hand it over, then turn the crank on the repaired Lucky Wheel.

Talk to Oogie Boogie about the results. The spin releases bugs and strange pumpkins across the valley, which becomes your next set of objectives.

Part three: Clear the invasion across the valley

Exit through the green portal back into Scrooge’s Store. Seven swarms of Oogie Boogie Bugs and eight Sweet or Spooky Pumpkins are now scattered around the village, and both counts must hit their targets.

Removing the Oogie Boogie Bugs

The bugs are indoors, so you do not need a tool for them. Walk into Mickey’s House and step over each of the three scurrying clusters, then do the same for the four clusters inside Goofy’s House. Some of them drop purple Fear Essence as they vanish.

Smashing the Sweet or Spooky Pumpkins

The pumpkins sit outside on pathways and open ground, split evenly between the Plaza and Peaceful Meadow. Break each one with your Royal Pickaxe. They drop random amounts of Fear Essence, which is what feeds the next objective.

If the counter stalls at six or seven pumpkins, open furniture placement mode and zoom the camera out to an aerial view. The remaining pumpkins are much easier to spot tucked behind buildings and foliage from above.

Part four: Deliver 20 Fear Essence and claim the chest

Once the bug and pumpkin counters are full, you should be holding 20 Fear Essence. Run back to Scrooge’s Store and step through the Strange Mirror again.
Hand the 20 Fear Essence to Oogie Boogie to power the wheel a second time.
Interact with the Lucky Wheel and spin it. This time it produces a Lucky Wheel Chest.
Open the chest and unpack the prize from your inventory. That last action closes out the quest.

How to confirm the quest is complete

After you unpack the Lucky Wheel prize, the screen immediately displays the A Halloween Invasion quest-complete banner with Oogie Boogie. At that moment, the entry also disappears from your active quest log.

Unpacking the chest reward adds Oogie Boogie’s Lair Skeletons to your furniture inventory. The Barrel Mask, Lock Mask, and Shock Mask are also tied to this quest, so check your wardrobe if you want to confirm everything landed.

With the first stage cleared, the next quest in the chain becomes available on its scheduled date rather than immediately. In the meantime, the Haunting Elegance Star Path runs alongside the event with 121 duties and its own weekly routine tasks, which is the most direct way to keep earning Halloween rewards between Oogie Boogie missions.
