The Tsaritsa has spent six years collecting Gnoses from other nations, and Version 7.1 finally puts that collection to work on screen. When Rhinedottir walks into the frozen hall of the Cryo Archon, the six Gnoses are already in place around the room, and Rhinedottir immediately names what they are doing.
Quick answer: The six Gnoses are used together to push Cryo energy to its maximum, which lets the Tsaritsa bend the bounds of Reason and slow the flow of time inside the room where she and Rhinedottir meet.
Which six Gnoses the Tsaritsa has
Six of the seven elemental Gnoses sit in Fatui hands at this point in the story. The Pyro Gnosis is the one still outside the set, which is why the Tsaritsa’s wider plan remains unfinished.
| Gnosis | Status in 7.1 |
|---|---|
| Cryo | The Tsaritsa’s own |
| Anemo | Taken from Barbatos |
| Geo | Handed over by Morax |
| Electro | Traded away by Lesser Lord Kusanali |
| Dendro | Given to Il Dottore |
| Hydro | Passed on by Neuvillette |
A Gnosis is proof of an Archon’s place among The Seven and lets its holder resonate with Celestia directly. They look like chess pieces, and they were made from the remains of the Third Descender. That origin matters here, because it means drawing on a Gnosis means drawing on power from outside Teyvat.

Add to Google Preferences →How the six Gnoses amplify Cryo energy
The Gnoses are not being used to control six different elements at once. They are stacked as a power source for a single element. Arranged into a tetrahedral boundary that cages the room, they feed the Tsaritsa’s Cryo energy until it reaches its maximum.

That amplified Cryo does something ordinary Cryo cannot. It reaches the bounds of Reason itself, the underlying rules the world runs on, rather than simply freezing what is in front of it.
This is consistent with how Gnoses have worked elsewhere in Teyvat. Archons wield their elements without them, but a Gnosis makes those abilities far stronger, and a god can use another element’s Gnosis as raw fuel for their own element. Nahida did exactly that with the Electro Gnosis. The Tsaritsa is running the same trick at six times the scale.
What the effect does and where its limits are
Rhinedottir spells out both the reach of the effect and its ceiling. The distinction is the important part, because it explains why this is a tactical measure rather than a win condition.
- It affects the bounds of Reason, the laws that govern the space.
- It slows the flow of time inside the hall where the two of them stand.
- It is not strong enough to freeze space and time outright.
- It is localized, affecting only that domain rather than Snezhnaya at large.
Rhinedottir’s read on it is blunt. She concludes that the whole collection was assembled to deal with her, and says she is surprised, before asking the Tsaritsa to confirm she has it right.
With Cryo energy maximally enhanced by the Gnoses… You can affect the bounds of Reason… Not enough to completely freeze space and time. But enough to slow down the flow of time where we are…
The slowdown is a countermeasure aimed at a specific guest. The Ruler of Life walking into Snezhnaya is the reason the cage is switched on, not the battle happening elsewhere against Ronova.
Why the Tsaritsa needed the Gnoses in the first place
Slowing time in one room is a use of the collection, not its purpose. Version 7.1 gives two reasons behind the years of theft, trades and contracts.
The first is raw power. Because the Gnoses are made from the Third Descender’s remains, gathering them lets the Tsaritsa build up enough strength to stand against the Heavenly Principles using power that did not originate in Teyvat.
The second is a lock. A final seal left behind by the Third Descender is hidden inside Zapolyarny Palace, known only to the Tsaritsa and a narrow circle around her. That seal responds to the Gnoses and appears to need all seven to open. With the Pyro Gnosis still held by Haborym, the plan sits incomplete.
There is a third pressure on Snezhnaya as well. Project Mistilteinn, the nation’s programme for challenging the Heavenly Principles, has stalled because Ronova’s authority over Death has capped its technological progress. Snezhnaya cannot move its research forward without confronting her directly.

Gnoses versus the Eye of the Fatui
It is easy to mix up the two pieces of Fatui hardware on display, since both channel power far beyond a normal Vision. They are separate things doing separate jobs.
| Six Gnoses | Eye of the Fatui | |
|---|---|---|
| Used by | The Tsaritsa | Pierro |
| Where | The frozen hall | The battlefield |
| Effect | Slows local time | Summons a crystalline lance |
| Cost | None shown | Lethal strain; artifact cracks |
The Eye of the Fatui is a Fatui-built relic that had never been tested in live combat before this fight. Ronova warns that no mortal body or mind can hold that power. Pierro uses it anyway, and once the lance has pierced her barrier he collapses, the cracked relic falling into the snow.

Nothing comparable happens to the Tsaritsa. The Gnoses do their work quietly, as a standing condition on the room, while the costly improvisation plays out somewhere else entirely.

Where the Gnosis reveal sits in the 7.1 story
The confrontation between Rhinedottir and the Tsaritsa is cut into the fight against Ronova, so you reach it partway through the Snezhnaya arc rather than at the start. Chapter 7 Act 3, White Night, Like A Dream Upon Waking, unlocks after you finish Wraith’s Nocturne, and it arrived alongside Version 7.1 on September 23, 2026. A normal-paced run takes roughly two hours and 45 minutes to three hours.

The same version’s Khaenri’ah storyline also explains the urgency on the map’s opposite side. In Pierro’s memory, Ronova used the Curse of Immortality 500 years in the past and watched people plead without showing pity or pleasure.

For now, the practical takeaway is narrow and clear. Six Gnoses equal one very strong Cryo Archon in one very slow room, with the seventh still missing and the seal under Zapolyarny Palace still shut.
