Zoe asks Dylan to track down a missing ranger named Matthews, and the game does not put a marker on him. He is standing in plain sight as a generic FBC Ranger, refusing to give his name, and the only way to confirm his identity is to push him through a short chain of dialogue choices.

Quick answer: Matthews is the unnamed FBC Ranger by the refrigerator in the breakroom of Security Station 01. Pick “Are you sure?”, then “You’re lying”, then “Did you abandon your team?” to expose him.

Matthews location: Security Station 01 breakroom

Start from the ground-level courtyard of the FBC field office staging area. The building you want is signposted SECURITY STATION 01, and the entrance is not on the ground floor. Climb the exterior stairs and stacked containers on the outside of the building until you reach the upper metal catwalk, then take the door there.

Inside, yellow floor arrows point you through a lounge with pool tables. Keep going and you will reach the kitchen and breakroom at the back. The ranger you are looking for is the armed one standing next to the refrigerator, and he is the only NPC in the room who can be talked to.

Dialogue choices that expose Matthews

The ranger opens by denying everything, so the conversation only resolves if you keep pressing. Other options on the wheel, including “Sorry for bothering you” and “I’ll leave you alone”, end the conversation without confirming anything.

Interact with the FBC Ranger holding the assault rifle. Work through his denials and select “Are you sure?” when it appears on the dialogue wheel.

Pick “You’re lying” to call him out for hiding his identity. This is the line that breaks his cover story about not knowing the missing team.
Finish with “Did you abandon your team?” He admits he is Matthews, that his squad went missing in the West Incursion Zone, and that he walked away from his post. He then breaks down and asks Dylan to leave him alone.

The earlier options, “Where you in West Incursion Zone?” and “I heard a team went missing”, are safe to use first. They set up the conversation without closing it out.

Reporting Matthews to Zoe over the radio

Leave the breakroom after the confession and Zoe calls Dylan automatically. She wants to know whether the ranger was actually Matthews. Head up the exterior staircase toward the upper office while the call plays out.

Answer with “I think so” to confirm the identification. Choosing “It wasn’t him” is the opposite reply, so avoid it if you want the confirmation on record.

Follow up with “Will he be fired?” if you want Zoe to spell out the consequence. She says Matthews will be reported and dismissed, then moves the conversation on to the West Incursion Zone. That exchange is your confirmation that the thread is done — the conversation closes out and Zoe hands Dylan the next lead instead of asking about Matthews again.

Collectibles and loot in Security Station 01

The same building holds two documents and a resource crate, all of them easy to walk past. None are required to identify Matthews, but they file into the Archives under Collectibles and count toward completion tracking.

The policy update is signed by Acting Co-Director Simon Arish and explains why a security guard is wearing ranger gear in the first place. It reassigns every remaining Security Guard in the Oldest House to the Rangers, with instructions to report to CLO Ruboneka.

The second document sits on the desk in the upper office you reach after the radio call. Operations Recommendation argues that the West Incursion Zone should be made off-limits immediately, describing how an exploratory team nearly lost two rangers there before making it back to the field office. It ends by asking whether a rescue team had already been sent in, which lines up directly with what happened to Matthews’ squad.

Once Zoe signs off, the West Incursion Zone becomes the focus, and the two documents you picked up in the security station are the setup for it. If you are collecting as you go, both entries appear in the Archives under Collectibles, where the Crisis Containment and West Incursion Records categories track your totals.
