World of Warcraft: Burning Blade Medallion Quest Guide

Burning Blade Medallion is a low-level Horde quest in the Valley of Trials, the starting zone for orcs and trolls in Durotar. It sends you into the Burning Blade Coven cave to recover a medallion held by the coven’s only orc, a warlock named Yarrog Baneshadow. The quest is picked up from and turned in to Zureetha Fargaze near The Den.

Quick answer: Enter the cave in northern Valley of Trials, follow the right-hand path across the water to the rear platform, kill Yarrog Baneshadow, loot the Burning Blade Medallion, then return to Zureetha Fargaze.

Burning Blade Medallion quest details

This is part of the Valley of Trials starting chain. It follows Vile Familiars and leads into Report to Sen’jin Village. You can only progress once the earlier familiar quest is complete.

Along the way you also need to slay the coven’s Felstalkers, which count toward the objective. The Vile Familiars and Felstalkers inside are around level 3-4, so they go down quickly at this stage.

Finding the Burning Blade Coven and the route to Yarrog

The cave sits in the northern part of the valley, north and east of The Den, in the same spot where you fought the Vile Familiars for the previous quest. The entrance is at roughly [45, 56] in Durotar. Open your map as you approach to confirm you are inside the Burning Blade Coven.

Yarrog Baneshadow spawns at the far back of the cave, on the upper platform, near coordinates [42, 52]. Keep to the right as soon as you enter and follow the tunnel around. When you reach the water, cross it and continue straight ahead to reach his ledge.

If you end up below his platform, either backtrack to the entrance and take his branch, or pull him down with a ranged attack so he runs to you.

Thazz’ril’s Pick also takes place inside the Burning Blade Coven, so run both quests together on a single trip.

How to complete the Burning Blade Medallion quest

In the northern Valley of Trials, go into the Burning Blade Coven cave. Follow the tunnels farther in, then drop into the waterfall pool.

Work through the Vile Familiars and Felstalkers along the path. You can fight them or run past, but the Felstalkers count toward the objective, so clear them as you move.

Reach the rear upper ledge and clear any remaining mobs on the platform while you wait for Yarrog Baneshadow to spawn.

When Yarrog Baneshadow appears, engage him. He is an orc warlock who casts fire spells, so interrupt or burn him down fast, especially if you are solo.

After he dies, loot his body to pick up the Burning Blade Medallion. The objective updates to 1/1 once it is in your bags.

Run back out of the cave and return to Zureetha Fargaze near The Den to turn in the quest.

Burning Blade Medallion quest rewards

Turning in the medallion lets you choose one piece of gear and grants a set of fixed rewards. Pick the item that matches your armor type and slot.

You also receive a Minor Healing Potion, 1 silver 65 copper, 300 experience, and 500 reputation with Orgrimmar.

Confirming the quest is complete

Once the medallion is looted, the tracker reads Burning Blade Medallion 1/1 and the objective is marked complete. Hand it to Zureetha Fargaze and she confirms with “You retrieved it! Well done!” She then points you toward Sen’jin Village to report to Master Gadrin, which starts the next step in the Valley of Trials chain.
