The Subway Fault quest sends you underground in Evacuation Zone 5, following a vision of Jesse from a street-level station entrance down into flooded tunnels and collapsed transit infrastructure. The objective “Investigate the Subway in the Evacuation Zone” is complete only when you reach the anomalous bridge deep below and step into the Fault itself.

Quick answer: Follow the marker to the subway stairs in Evacuation Zone 5, descend to the tracks, push through the tunnels and mold chamber, drop down the void of suspended train cars, then reach the altar on the bridge to enter the Fault.

Where the Subway Fault quest begins

The quest is tracked as The Subway Fault, and its marker points to the underground transit system near the Railyard Substation in Evacuation Zone 5. The quest description notes that patterning in the subway tunnels could lead to another Fault, and the subtext ties it to a vision of Jesse spotted at the station entrance.

Before you head down, note the labels around this area on the map, including the Railyard Substation, the Evacuation Zone Checkpoint, and a “Path to Sub…” marker that leads toward the entrance. You should also be carrying the Level 1 Keycard, which opens all FBC clearance level 1 doors along the route.

How to reach the Subway Fault

The route is a single continuous descent. Follow the yellow diamond waypoint whenever you lose your bearings, and expect Resonant and Mold enemies at several points along the way.

From street level in Evacuation Zone 5, run through the building toward the outdoor subway stairs. An echo of Jesse appears at the entrance as you approach, which confirms you are at the right access point.
Go into the subway, then make your way down via the mezzanine and tiled stairwells. Continue to the platform next to a train car that is out of service.

Drop from the platform onto the tracks and follow the rails into the curved tunnel. Continue deeper until a stationary train car blocks the track ahead.
Move through the blocking train car to pass the obstruction, then keep following the rails on the other side.

At a vertical shaft lined with turquoise crystalline growth, climb the central maintenance ladder to the upper level.
Follow the overgrown upper tracks to a maintenance door, then drop back down to the lower rails on the far side.

A Resonant entity charges you on the track. Take it out, then vault over the wall onto the graffiti-covered side platform.
Drop through the broken wall opening into the lower corridor with abandoned sleeping mats. Cross the shelter area and re-emerge on the tracks past train MT386.

Vault over the utility pipes and obstacles, work through the service bypass corridors, then slide down the steep teal sediment slope into the deeper tunnel system.

Enter the large, mold-choked tunnel chamber and clear the enemies inside, including Mold Hosts, Bloomed Spore Mothers, and Mold Blights. Grab any dropped materials, then exit through the arched tunnel.
Take the lit passage to the brink of an immense upright shaft, where subway cars hang suspended.
Drop into the chasm and land on the tops of the hanging train cars to break your fall as you descend to the bottom of the pit.

Aim for each dangling car roof rather than falling straight down; the staged landings keep fall damage manageable.

At the teal mold floor at the base of the pit, fight off the flying and crawling Mold entities, then head into the glowing railway tunnel that curves upward.
Cross the concrete interlink bridge on foot, heading for the altar that holds a television. The Board speaks there, and your objective changes to “Enter the Fault.”

How to confirm you entered the Fault

Interact with the altar at the end of the bridge. The screen blacks out, and you wake in an anomalous forest clearing. When the objective changes to “Find and Talk to Jesse”, the investigation step is finished and you are inside the Fault.

From there, the quest continues in the Fault area, so head toward Jesse to progress the story.
