Steal an Egg: How to Get Better Bats and Bat Skins

Every player in Steal an Egg spawns with the same plain wooden baseball bat sitting in item slot 1. It works, but it hits softly and does little to control other players during a run. Better bats and bat skins change how hard you knock rivals off their eggs, and there are a few clear ways to get them.

Quick answer: You can get upgraded bats three ways — buy them from the Rift Shop, earn them during Admin events, or unlock skins by completing biome sets in the Pet Index and clicking CLAIM!.

Three ways to get a better bat

All three methods give you a stronger or better-looking bat, but they unlock in very different ways. Pick the route that matches what you already have.

Rift Shop — a large purple crystal rift structure in the central base yard that sells better bats. It shows an E Locked prompt until you meet its requirement.
Admin events — bats handed out during developer sessions, often called Admin Abuse or Admin events.
Pet Index completion — collect every pet in a biome and claim that biome’s bat skin as a reward.

Shops in the base area, including limited-stock windows like Dr Scramble’s Experiments, sell potions, cash boosters, and other items alongside the gear you use on the field.

Every Pet Index bat skin reward

The Pet Index is the most reliable path because it only depends on collecting pets. Each biome page has its own bat reward, and finishing that biome’s pet set unlocks the matching skin. The rewards range from simple recolors to a full katana-style weapon.

How to unlock a bat skin through the Pet Index

Open the Pet Index using the Index control on the HUD’s left side. Every biome page lists its pet slots and a completion tally, such as 1/8, beside the bat reward icon.

Use the World tab to pick the biome you want to work on, such as Forest, Lake, Desert, Jungle, or Cherry Blossom.

Obtain the full set of 8 pets for the biome. Steal eggs scattered on the field’s ground and hatch them to add entries to each world’s index.

Once the set reads full, click the CLAIM! button next to the bat reward at the bottom of that world’s page. If several rewards are waiting, CLAIM ALL collects them together.

Individual pet entries also pay out cash and speed when claimed, so working through the index improves your income and movement at the same time as your bat.

What a better bat actually does

For direct player-versus-player combat, the bat is your primary tool. A successful swing sends another player tumbling in ragdoll and launches them off their feet; if they have an egg, the impact makes them drop it. Stronger bats send egg-carriers much farther, giving you time to pick up the egg before they recover.

With its limited reach, the bat requires you to get close before swinging. Confined areas, including biome chokepoints and spots just outside a base, are ideal because the target has fewer options for dodging. Pursuing someone over open ground seldom works unless your Speed stat is noticeably higher than theirs.

The marked SAFE ZONE prevents bat swings. Using an item there displays Cannot use items in the safe zone!, so PvP must take place out in the field.

How to confirm your bat unlocked

You know a Pet Index bat worked when the CLAIM! button on that biome’s page changes to a claimed state and the new bat skin becomes available in your loadout. Equip it from item slot 1 to swap out the plain wooden starter. From there, take it out of the SAFE ZONE and swing at a moving egg-carrier to see the stronger knockback in action.
