WoW Forever Library Books: All Locations and Rewards

Where every known book sits, who to hand them to, and the necklace and ring you unlock at 10 and 20 turn-ins.

Library Books are collectible tomes scattered across Azeroth in WoW Forever. Any class can pick them up, carry them to a librarian in their capital’s mage quarter, and donate them one at a time. Each different book you hand in pushes you toward two reward quests, and mages get an extra bonus on top.

Quick answer: Loot books from fixed objects in the world, then turn them in to Garion Wendell in Stormwind (Alliance) or Owen Thadd in Undercity (Horde). Ten different books earn a necklace; 20 total earn a ring.

How to turn in Library Books

Each book is its own separate quest, so you can donate them as you find them rather than hoarding a full set. Every turn-in also rewards a Comprehension Charm, which only mages can use.

The librarian makes the quest available only when you have a book with you. If you don’t see the option, loot a book and come back.

Books are Soulbound, so you cannot trade or sell them. To fill both libraries you will need to cross into enemy territory, and several books sit in high-level zones, so plan your route around your character’s level.

Rewards at 10 and 20 books

Turning in books unlocks two milestone quests. Your 10th different donation triggers Friend of the Library, and your 20th triggers Greater Friend of the Library. The first 10 count toward the 20, so you only need 20 different books in total, not 30. Neither necklace has a class or level requirement.

Friend of the Library (10 books)

NecklaceStats
Scholarly Pendant+6 Stamina, +4 Spirit
Erudite’s Amulet+4 Agility, +6 Stamina

Greater Friend of the Library (20 books)

RingStats
Philanthropist’s Ring+6 Intellect, +10 spell damage and healing
Field Researcher’s Loop+7 Strength, +7 Agility, +7 Stamina (Rogue only)

The rings themselves have no level requirement, though their quest does. During the beta, one player found no quest at 17, saw it appear greyed out at 19, and turned it in at level 20.

Eastern Kingdoms book locations

Most starter-level books sit here, close enough together that a low-level Alliance character can chain several in one loop. Books do not drop from enemies; each one is looted from a fixed shelf, scroll pile, or tome in the world.

Rumi’s two spots hold the same book, so you can only take it once. Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities sat in The Sepulcher at (43.4, 41.2) during Season of Discovery, but it has not yet been confirmed at that spot in Forever.

Kalimdor book locations

Kalimdor has fewer books, with locations stretching from Darkshore to Thousand Needles. Three are grouped in The Barrens, making it a good stop for either faction.

Baxtan sits in Ratchet, a neutral goblin town, so both Alliance and Horde players can grab that one without a faction fight. For Secrets of the Dreamers, enter the cave at Lushwater Oasis and look for the scrolls container near the Wailing Caverns entrance; you do not need to go into the dungeon.

Runes of the Sorcerer-Kings sits deep among level 18–20 elite ogres, and the Wailing Caverns and oil-rig books have elites nearby. Group up or wait until you out-level these stops.

Mage Research profession from Library Books

Mages who donate books can unlock a new profession called Research, which grants the Comprehension skill and the Study spell. The exact number of books needed is unclear in the beta, with some mages reporting Research appeared after their very first turn-in.

  • Study can be cast from level 6 and takes about 6 seconds to complete.
  • It requires one Light Feather and a suitable library nearby.
  • It has a 1-hour cooldown and produces a Bundle of Scrolls.
  • Bundles have held items such as Scroll of Imbue Lesser Flame, Scroll of Imbue Chillknife, Scroll of Rat Familiar, and Scroll of Comprehension.

Beta bugs are affecting Research. Several mages say it vanishes from their profession list when they log out, so you may need to acquire it again until the issue is fixed.

How to confirm your progress

Each successful hand-in completes that book’s quest and pays out a Comprehension Charm, so a completed quest is your sign the book counted. Watch your running total: the necklace quest, Friend of the Library, appears at 10 different books, and the ring quest, Greater Friend of the Library, appears at 20. Once both quests are complete and you have chosen your necklace and ring, you have collected everything the current turn-in rewards offer.
