Slayers 2: How to Get Every Fishing Rod (Basic, Rare, and Legendary)

Fishing in Slayers 2 opens up once you reach the docks at Mistfall Harbor, and it runs on three rods that unlock in a fixed order. You start with the Basic Fishing Rod, earn the Rare Fishing Rod by proving you can catch a specific fish, and finish with the Legendary Fishing Rod through a multi-step quest. Each rod is bought or unlocked at the harbor, and the last one is the only way to reliably pull materials like Mythical Ores instead of plain fish.

Quick answer: Reach Level 45, grab the Fishing Permit for Dock Master Sofen, then buy the Basic Rod (3,500 Wen) and Rare Rod (10,000 Wen after 5 Golden Fish) from Fisherman Jeso. The Legendary Rod comes from the Drowned Lure quest.

Requirements before you can buy any rod

Fishing unlocks at Level 45. Once you reach that level, head to Mistfall Harbor and find Dock Master Sofen in the harbor’s central area. He explains that a Fishing Permit is required to fish there or buy a rod.

The permit is easy to collect. Head to the other side of the docks and look for a building with wooden crates nearby. The Permit Papers sit on top of some of those crates. Pick them up and return them to Dock Master Sofen to clear the requirement.

Basic Fishing Rod

The Basic Fishing Rod is your entry point. After turning in the permit, walk over to Fisherman Jeso, who stands slightly to the right of Dock Master Sofen on the dock. Buy the rod for 3,500 Wen.

This rod has no buffs or passive effects. It exists to get you catching fish and to satisfy the requirement for the next tier, so plan to replace it as soon as you can.

Rare Fishing Rod

Fisherman Jeso also offers the Rare Fishing Rod, but you must meet a catch milestone to purchase it. First, catch 5 Golden Fish with your Basic Fishing Rod. Afterward, return to Jeso and pay 10,000 Wen for the rod.

Unlike the Basic rod, this one comes with meaningful stats that make catching higher-quality fish easier. It is the rod you will lean on while working toward the Legendary quest.

Legendary Fishing Rod quest

The Legendary Fishing Rod is the best rod in the game and the only one locked behind a full quest chain. You will need both earlier rods before you begin, since the Basic rod pulls the Drowned Lure and the Rare rod handles the fish requirements. Follow the steps in order.

Speak with the Dock Master again. He gives you the clue about the Drowned Lure and points you toward where to fish for it.

Head to the narrow shelf across from the water vent, a short distance from the dock. Equip the Basic Fishing Rod and fish there without bait. The Drowned Lure typically shows up after about five or six successful catches.

Head to the red bridge across from that ledge. The Ghost Fisherman spawns underneath it. Talk to him to receive the next task.

Catch 2 Crustadon and 2 Krahuon, both Legendary-type fish, from the same ledge. Use the Rare Fishing Rod, and equip bait such as the Shark Head to speed this up. Deliver all four fish to the Ghost Fisherman and he reveals the final fishing spot.

Go to the spot beyond Butterfly Estate where a small waterfall sits in front of a tree. Equip the Drowned Lure on your Rare Fishing Rod, then keep fishing there until you catch the Legendary Fishing Rod.

The Legendary rod’s standout trait is its Items Catch Tier, which lets it pull materials rather than only fish. Its stats are as follows.

You will know the quest is complete when the Legendary Fishing Rod notification appears on screen after reeling it in. Obtaining the rod also automatically unlocks the Legendary Fisherman title, which grants a 1.07x Fishing Luck Factor, a 1.05x Bite Speed Factor, and a 1.06x Breath Duration Factor passive.

The upgrade path follows a set sequence: use the Basic rod to get the Golden Fish needed for the Rare rod, then rely on the Rare rod to fulfill the Crustadon and Krahuon requirements for the Legendary rod. After the Legendary rod is in your inventory, make it your go-to tool for farming Mythical Ores, Metal Scraps, and Silk Threads.
