CONTROL Resonant includes New Game Plus from launch, so you can begin another run as soon as Dylan Faden’s story ends without overwriting your completed save. You retain most of your combat upgrades, gain access to build choices unavailable on your first playthrough, and face a more dangerous fight across twisted Manhattan. There is one major launch limitation, but Remedy has pledged to fix it.
Quick answer: Finish the main story, hold Down on the D-Pad to enter the Gap, face the Hedron drawing on the abilities wall and hold L1, then press X to begin. The run starts on a separate save slot.

How to start New Game Plus in CONTROL Resonant
You can access the option only once the campaign is complete. Finish the final quest, The End, and its epilogue to unlock it. The new run uses a separate save slot, leaving your post-credits file unchanged; return to that file whenever you want to finish any remaining content.
A new save slot opens into the fresh playthrough, while your completed file is still there.

Nearly all of your combat investment carries over with Dylan, so you can equip skills and builds you passed over on your first run. Your accumulated survivability and ability economy carry forward, too.
| Progress | New Game Plus result |
|---|---|
| Aberrant upgrades | Carries over |
| Health improvements | Carries over |
| Combat ability resource improvements | Carries over |
| Supernatural combat abilities | Carries over |
| Passives and Talents | Carries over |
| Artifacts | Carries over |
| Zone progress and vendor level | Carries over |
| Cosmetics | Carries over |
| Resonant Token and reset items | Carries over |
| Arcade challenge progress | Carries over |
| Traversal abilities | Resets |
Source and other crafting resources move across as well, so you keep the raw materials for rebuilding in the Gap.

What resets on a second run
The story itself begins again, which means anything tied to progression is wiped so the campaign plays out in the intended order.
- Traversal abilities, which you unlock again one by one as the story unfolds.
- Key items and quest items.
- Side quest and main quest progress, replayed from the start.
- Map discovery, so the fog returns and zones need clearing again.
- Completed secrets, though the rewards you already earned from them stay in your inventory.
Movement powers reset because they are tied directly to story access. Handing them over early could bypass intended gates and break quest triggers, so combat power stays while traversal is rebuilt. That also means the map is not an open cleanup playground the instant a new run starts.
What is new on a second run
A return trip is more than a difficulty slider. You cannot unlock everything in a single pass, so the second run gives you room to finish builds the first one cannot support.
- A fourth Artifact slot opens, up from three, for more complex passive combinations.
- Additional Talent nodes give you new ways to pair abilities with Aberrant attacks.
- You can equip several combat abilities earned from a single boss at once, enabling synergies the first run blocks.
- Opponents deal more damage, and new boss behaviors demand different tactics.
The difficulty spike is substantial, but usually doesn’t show itself until the later regions. An additional Artifact slot can offset that pressure while simplifying focused builds—whether aimed at Falter pressure or direct damage. A further run restores World Quests and bounties, lets you gather missed collectibles, and reveals alternate outcomes in certain side stories and conversations.

The one-run limit and the New Game Plus Plus fix
At launch, New Game Plus allows only a single story replay on your accumulated progression. Remedy has acknowledged this and plans to lift the cap with a New Game Plus Plus update. No exact date has been confirmed beyond the October window, but the feature removes the playthrough limit so you can run one NG+ after another without wiping your progress. Remedy has gone as far as saying you could “do 665 runs if you want.”
Playing again makes it much easier to complete every zone, since resetting an area restores secrets, world events, and other content. Photo Mode is planned for a later release, targeted for November; it will let you explore a familiar world and take pictures with full knowledge of what’s coming.
