Jack’s Back in Business is a short character quest given by Jack, the Workshop Foreman, in Graveyard Keeper 2. It asks you to clear the zombies swarming his workshop by winning the Market Square Purge defense fight, then return and tell Jack the good news. The whole thing is a single step, but the battle has a hard entry requirement you need to meet first.

Quick answer: Raise your Barracks Defense Power to 22/22 by crafting barricades, win the Market Square Purge battle, then speak to Jack at his workshop to complete the quest.

Requirements before you start

You unlock this quest by finishing Workshop Hours and speaking to Jack, who is staying at the Town Warehouse. Once the objective appears, the battle gate will not open until your defensive setup is strong enough.

  • Complete the previous quest, Workshop Hours.
  • Reach a Barracks Defense Power of 22.
  • Have at least one squad available to deploy (up to two are allowed).
  • Bring a melee weapon such as the Iron Sword for the fight.

The battle location is marked on the map with a red shield banner near the Square. Open the Map screen to confirm the destination before you head out.

Raise Defense Power to 22 in the Barracks

The Market Square Purge needs a Defense Power score of 22 to begin. If you arrive with only 20, you build the difference by crafting more barricades inside the Barracks.

Walk through the Crossroads and enter the Barracks. Check your current Defense Power reading, which may sit at 20/22.
Open the Barracks construction menu and craft barricades until the total reaches at least 22. Options include Barricade I and II, Spiked Barricade I and II, Fortified Barricade I and II, and Reinforced Beam.

Confirm the score now reads 22/22, then leave the Barracks and head south toward the guarded gate.

Win the Market Square Purge

Interact with the guard to open the battle setup screen. Here you confirm your squad allotment and start the fight. One squad is enough to win, even though the game allows two.

On the Market Square Purge screen, review the requirements and choose Start Battle.

Before combat begins, use the Command post to place barricades and spiked barricades across the pathway choke points. Blocking the approaches funnels the zombies and keeps them off the center.
Pick up your squad banner and set it near the central circular defense zone around the monument. Your soldiers will hold that spot while you fight freely.

Select Start Fight and meet the incoming waves. Use sweeping melee attacks with the Iron Sword to hit clusters of zombies at once, and watch your stamina so you are not caught mid-swing.

Keep the center clear until the timer runs out. Clearing the remaining zombies secures victory and awards +3 Town Gratitude from the battle.

Sweeping strikes on grouped enemies are far more efficient than picking them off one at a time, which helps you keep the monument protected before the clock ends.

Report to Jack and confirm completion

After the Purge is cleared, return to town and enter Jack’s Workshop. Speak to Jack to turn in the quest. The journal closes with a line noting the zombies are gone and the workshop is ready to be restored, and the completed entry appears in the quest tree.

Finishing the turn-in awards reputation with Jack, additional Town Gratitude, and a Story item. You know it worked when the quest shows as completed and Give materials opens as the next step.

What comes next

For the next request, restore the workshop by delivering two batches: 5 Building Kit I plus 5 Wooden Kit I. Turn them in in either order, but Jack requires both. After the second batch arrives, the workshop is restored, Jack makes you his apprentice, and you earn another 10 reputation with Jack and 2 Town Gratitude.
