The Division 2 is heading into its busiest stretch in years. Ubisoft has laid out a run of content that closes 2026 with a new story expansion called Echoes of Central Park, adds cross-platform play, keeps a live Dark Zone event running, and opens the door to a standalone survival mode built around extraction. Here is what each piece is and how they fit together.

Quick answer: Echoes of Central Park releases November 3, 2026 and requires the base game; crossplay arrives shortly after, and The Division 2: Survivors is opening test registration at thedivision2.com/register.

Echoes of Central Park: release date, price, and setting

Echoes of Central Park is the next narrative expansion for The Division 2, developed by Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Bucharest. The Deluxe DLC is priced at $29.99 and needs the base game to play. Pre-orders are already open, and buying early adds a cosmetic mask, while the Deluxe Edition includes three outfits and a weapon skin. These extras do not affect gameplay progression.

The story is framed as a summer flashback and takes place in a Central Park that has grown wild and dense since the outbreak. The park was sealed off after the collapse, and the mission puts you on the trail of a distress call, tasking you with rescuing a VIP named Miranda Veer. Black Tusk operatives are already active in the area, so the expansion is not just about exploring an empty park.

Tone is a big part of the pitch. The expansion leans into grounded horror, using strange phenomena and an unreliable narrator to explain why the environment looks so different from the series’ usual decay. It is being positioned as the darkest chapter in The Division to date.

The Upper West Side map

Echoes of Central Park opens a new open-world area on the Upper West Side. It is described as twice the size of the Battle for Brooklyn DLC region, making it the largest single map addition the game has had in a while.

The new zone is broken into distinct districts:

  • Lincoln Square
  • The Dakota District
  • The Flower Settlement

Companions and how they work

The expansion introduces a companion system. You can bring one AI companion along on campaign missions, and each one has unique abilities and combat roles that can slot alongside your build. Only one companion is active at a time. In co-op play, the companion is assigned to the group leader rather than to every player.

Endgame loop, new skills, and the Rattle exotic

Once the main story is done, Central Park becomes a repeatable endgame zone. It strips out GPS navigation and the usual safety nets, so you are learning the space on your own. The longer a group stays in the danger area, the harder it gets, escalating you from prey to predator as you scavenge resources and eventually provoke a world boss called the Apex Threat. Newcomers can jump straight in with a character boost to level 40.

On the loot side, the expansion adds six new skill variants, including Corrosive Track and Gas Bomber, plus new gear sets. Once unlocked, these skills can be used across the rest of the game, not only inside the DLC. There is also a new exotic weapon called The Rattle.

Crossplay across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

Cross-platform play is confirmed and set to arrive shortly after Echoes of Central Park launches. It covers PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, letting players group up across those platforms for the first time in the game’s history. No separate date has been attached beyond it following the November 3 release.

The Division 2: Survivors extraction mode

The Division 2: Survivors is a separate survival-extraction experience that reworks Washington, D.C. into a hardcore winter environment. It builds on the beloved Survival mode from the first Division, but it is being designed as its own thing rather than a straight remake. Magnus Jansén, a Division veteran, is Creative Director.

Winter changes the way the city plays. A new snow system covers familiar streets, and it is more than a coat of paint:

  • Snow shows your tracks, and deep snow slows movement.
  • Temperature matters, so heat sources become important, especially at night.
  • Darkness lowers enemy detection range, trading visibility for stealth.
  • Weather, time of day, loot spots, paths, and extraction points shift between runs.

As with the original Survival, you can choose whether a session is PvE or PvP-enabled, and runs are being built to vary in length so you can pick a short outing or a longer, tougher one. Public test registration is open now, and you can take part in the test without owning the base game.

Red Moon Rising Dark Zone event

Running alongside all of this is Red Moon Rising, a live PvE event in the Dark Zone. It runs until November 3, the same day the expansion launches. The event adds a world boss, the XB-35 “Phoebe” Marauder, and layers in stacking buffs and debuffs during fights.

Rewards include cosmetics and exotics, among them the Red Moon Recruiter Mask and matching Red Moon Recruiter apparel, plus a Banshee’s Shadow cosmetic bundle.

Free weekend, discount, and Year 9

A free-play weekend runs from September 24 to 28 across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, letting anyone try the full game before committing. It is paired with a sale of up to 90% off, so the base game can be picked up for a few dollars if you decide to keep playing.

Looking further out, Ubisoft has confirmed that Year 9 of The Division 2 is coming, building on the seasonal content, endgame features, PvP work, and Dark Zone modes added during Year 8. More on that is being saved for Division Day in March, the anniversary window the team traditionally uses to detail the road ahead.

Taken together, the lineup gives current players a horror-tinged expansion with a fresh map and endgame, brings the long-requested crossplay, keeps a live event running through launch day, and gives extraction fans a distinct winter mode to sign up for. The clearest fixed point is November 3, when Echoes of Central Park goes live and Red Moon Rising wraps up.
