Reach is the grapple traversal power in Control Resonant, and it comes from clearing The Subway Fault in the Evacuation Zone. It lets Dylan Faden pull himself toward the glowing bubble points on the edges of buildings, closing gaps that ordinary jumps can’t. It’s part of the Search for Jesse questline, and the campaign eventually can’t move forward without it.
Quick answer: Head to the subway near Railyard Street Station in the northern Evacuation Zone, work down through the mold-infested tunnels to the CRT TV at the bottom of the chasm, enter the Fault, and speak to Jesse to unlock Reach.
Before you go: location and prep
The Fault is on the Evacuation Zone’s northeast edge, near Railyard Street Station. Since many roads into that corner are unusable, reach it by crossing a mold-infested parking lot. Leave the lot and turn right; Dylan then sees Jesse in a vision, which begins The Subway Fault quest. Next, descend the subway staircase.
Two things make the trek safer. First, equip the Face Mask artifact, which slows how quickly Dylan picks up the Infected status from the mold. Second, expect a few level 4 enemy encounters on the way, so make sure your Power Level can handle them before you commit to the descent.
- Location: northern Evacuation Zone, near Railyard Street Station.
- Recommended artifact: Face Mask, for Infected resistance.
- Useful ability: Elevate, to control your fall inside the shafts.
- Threats: speeding trains and mold-infected humanoids, flying pods, and exploding brutes.

While falling through the train tunnels, activate Elevate to slow your descent so you land on the ledges instead of dropping straight through to the tunnel below.
Entering the Fault and unlocking Reach

How Reach works
Reach is a grapple assigned to L3 on PlayStation controllers. It pulls Dylan toward the translucent bubble points scattered around the environment, usually on rooftops and building edges. Its range is limited, so it works as the anchor on the far side of a gap rather than a free-flying hook.
To stretch its reach, chain a double-jump and a dodge or dash before you trigger the grapple. That extra distance pushes you into range of points that look just out of reach from a standing jump.
Grappling onto a gravity anomaly flips your gravity to that surface, letting you walk on ceilings and vertical walls. Grapple back to a normal surface to return to standard gravity.

Vault and Grapple share the same L3 input, so aim your camera carefully to avoid triggering a grapple when you only meant to vault.
Getting out and confirming the unlock
You know it worked when The Subway Fault marks as complete. Completing it pays +1 Living Shard and unlocks the “Repeating, Refracting” collectible memo, an echo of Jesse.
To leave, exit the Fault and backtrack the way you came. Use your new Reach ability to grapple up the deep train-car shaft, fight through the mold cavern ambush, and follow the tracks back toward the station. Activate the illuminated green exit door to unlock the Patterned Metro Tunnels fast travel point, so you never have to make the full descent again.
