Maintenance Protocol Walkthrough in Control Resonant (All Bulb Fixes)

Maintenance Protocol is a side quest that sends you into the lowest sections of the Oldest House to answer an alarm that has stayed silent for decades. The whole task revolves around repairing four temperamental light bulbs scattered around the Underpass, then dealing with what happens inside the projector at the end.

Quick answer: Fix the Electrosensitive, Volatile, and Botanophobic bulbs across the Underpass, return to the projector room, repair the final bulb, then choose “Break the bulb” to escape the slides and earn the Standard Issue Coverall.

Maintenance Protocol requirements and reward

This quest begins on its own once you speak with Zoe during Zoe’s Briefing. There is no separate object to interact with to trigger it, so finishing that earlier mission is the only prerequisite.

Starting location: Central, Watchtower
Requirement: Complete the Zoe’s Briefing side quest
Reward: Standard Issue Coverall (outfit)

Investigate the Oldest House alarm

Travel to the Deepest Underpass entrance using fast travel. Facing south from there, climb onto the ledge and inspect the doorway into the Oldest House to talk to Zoe.

Activate the keypad beside the door on its left, then go inside. Clear all Mold enemies from the first room before proceeding.

Take the door to the south and follow the path up into the projector room. Wait for the film to finish playing, which shows a maintenance worker explaining how the protocol works.

Head into the nearby room and interact with the console beside the three red lights. This marks three bulb locations around the Underpass on your map.

Fix all three Underpass bulbs

Each bulb has its own quirk and its own fix. You can tackle them in any order, but the routes below keep travel to a minimum.

Electrosensitive Bulb

Positioned immediately beneath the Research Stations fast travel door, this bulb turns hostile when other light sources compete with it. Drain the three charged cores beside it first; only then can you touch the bulb.

Carry the first Charge to the dead core below the platform’s northwest side.

Take the second Charge to the core below, beyond the platform’s west edge.

Place the third Charge in the core on the same level, just beyond the second one.

With all three cores beside the bulb drained, interact with the bulb to repair it.

Volatile Bulb

The Volatile Bulb is east of the Halfway Trail fast travel door, tucked in an elevated control area. It panics easily, so the fix is as much about dialogue as combat.

Interact with the bulb once, then talk to it and choose “You’re okay” to start calming it down.

Hiss enemies begin spawning in the area. Defeat them while keeping the bulb reassured by picking “I’ll keep them away from you”.

After defeating the Hiss, interact with the bulb once more and choose “You deserve to be fixed”.

Walk straight up to the calmed bulb and interact with it to repair it.

Botanophobic Bulb

This one sits on the island north of the Research Site. Follow the path north from the area labelled “Research Site” to reach it.

Head to the middle of the island, where the bulb is buried in Mold.

Destroy all of the Mold to expose the bulb, then interact with it to repair it.

Finish at the projector room and escape the slides

Fast travel back to the Deepest Underpass door and return to the projector room to complete the maintenance.

Interact with the light bulb shown in the video to fix the final one. Doing so pulls you inside the projection.

To get out of the slides, work through the dialogue in this order: “Where are you going?”, then “Unstable bulb”, then “Do you know a way out?”, and finally “Break the bulb”.

Choosing “Break the bulb” ends the projection and completes the quest. The Maintenance Protocol log entry closes out and you receive the Standard Issue Coverall outfit, confirming everything worked as intended.
