Verog the Dervish is a Horde quest in The Barrens that sends you to hunt down a roaming centaur commander who rarely stays put. Instead of chasing him across the zone, you force him to appear by attacking his troops at the Stagnant Oasis. The fight itself is short once he shows up, but triggering his arrival is the part that trips most players.

Quick answer: Kill the Kolkar centaurs around the command tent at the Stagnant Oasis until one yells to summon Verog. He spawns on the nearby platform, so slay him, loot Verog’s Head, and return it to Regthar Deathgate.

Quest requirements and rewards

You pick up and hand in this quest from Regthar Deathgate, who stands west of The Crossroads at roughly 45.4, 28.4. Before it becomes available you need to have finished the earlier Kolkar Leaders step. Verog is a level 18 humanoid with 417 health, and while the quest can be taken from level 11, it is far safer once you are a bit closer to his level.

Where to find Verog the Dervish

The entire task takes place in The Barrens. Travel to the Stagnant Oasis, at roughly coordinates 53, 42; it lies below The Crossroads and southeast of the Wailing Caverns. Follow the dirt road south from The Crossroads, and you’ll soon arrive at the water.

The key landmark is the Kolkar command tent on a slight hill overlooking the oasis, near 52, 41. This is the covered platform where Verog appears once you provoke his troops, so use it as your anchor point rather than wandering the whole area.

How to spawn and kill Verog

Go uphill to the large canopy tent. Verog does not appear there at the start, so look for him only after completing the required steps rather than searching the oasis.
Attack and kill the stationary Kolkar centaurs guarding the tent, such as the Kolkar Bloodcharger. Work from the tent outward so you fight them one at a time instead of pulling extras into the later boss fight.

Continue killing centaurs until one calls out “I am slain! Summon Verog!” in your chat log. Soon afterward, Verog appears by the platform just south of the tent and announces that he has been summoned, then challenges the intruders to come to his tent and face death.

After his shout you have only a couple of minutes to reach and engage him before he despawns. If he vanishes, clearing the guards again will bring him back.

Pull Verog and open with pet threat if you have one, then kite him down the hillside while dealing ranged damage. This spacing keeps you out of his heavy melee hits.

Finish him off and loot the body to collect Verog’s Head. The kill also awards a small amount of experience and copper.

Turn in Verog’s Head and confirm completion

Once the head is in your bags, travel back north to Regthar Deathgate, west of The Crossroads. Hand him the quest to receive the experience and Orgrimmar reputation.

You will know it worked when the objective reads “Verog’s Head: 1/1” after looting, and when the quest clears from your log on turn-in. Completing it opens the follow-up quest, Hezrul Bloodmark, from the same NPC.

If you want to double-check the quest is flagged as finished on your character, you can run /run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(851)) in-game and look for a “true” result.
