Escape the Backrooms is getting two content drops before the end of 2026, split into a cosmetic update in October and a larger level update in December called The After Party. The co-op horror game, which has crossed 10 million players, is framing both around a party theme, mixing festive decor with new hostile entities.
Quick answer: Update 1 brings new skins in October 2026. Update 2, The After Party, adds new party-themed levels and monsters in December 2026. The game is playable now on PC and consoles.
The two updates and when they arrive
The content is rolling out in two separate releases rather than one combined patch. The first is cosmetic, the second adds playable areas. Neither drop has a confirmed day-and-time, only the launch months.

The October update is purely cosmetic. It adds colored variants of the standard hazmat suit alongside a themed Partygoer outfit, so groups can tell players apart more easily and dress for the December event.
- Hazmat suits in green, blue, and yellow, each with the biohazard chest insignia, enclosed hood, tinted visor, gloves, and boots.
- A Partygoer suit, a yellow cloth-sack costume with a crude, blood-painted smile.
The Partygoer appears in the trailer standing in a fluorescent corridor, turning to the camera with its stitched grin before running alongside the hazmat team. It is a player skin rather than an enemy, despite the unsettling look.

Update 2: The After Party levels in December
The December update adds new playable levels built around a party setting, matching the Level Fun style of the Backrooms. These are the areas players have been asking for, and the trailer leans into that by showing a wall of community comments requesting more levels before the reveal.
Balloons, party hats, streamers, play equipment, and road-rug carpets dress the new zones, with red hallways casting light in some areas. On the wallpaper, a bloodstained invitation bears the message “AFTER PARTY? 🙂 YOU’RE EARLY,” hinting at what lies ahead.

The levels are not just cosmetic. New monstrous entities inhabit them, including a pale creature shown lunging at players and a tall, spindly wireframe figure that chases the group through the halls. A screaming Bacteria entity also appears in the found-footage segments.
No exact release day or time has been confirmed for either update beyond the October and December 2026 windows.
