Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – Every Part 1 Lord Route Ranked

Where Cai, Leda, Theodora, and Dietrich's Part 1 paths land on story, roster, combat, and unique mechanics.

Where Cai, Leda, Theodora, and Dietrich’s Part 1 paths land on story, roster, combat, and unique mechanics.

Part 1 of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave splits into four self-contained campaigns, one for each Flame Lord. Every path runs 12 chapters and tells its own version of events in Dagsion, with a different protagonist, a different starting roster, and a mechanic unique to that route. They are not equal in quality, and the gap between them is wide enough to matter for a first playthrough.

Quick answer: Dietrich places first, Theodora second, Leda third, and Cai fourth, weighed on story relevance, roster strength, combat balance, and each path’s signature mechanic.

RankRouteWhy it lands here
1DietrichOverpowered solo lord, strong free roster, comedic found-family tone
2TheodoraMost tied to the main plot, durable lord, flexible squad tools
3LedaStrongest free starting cast, fastest renown gain, self-contained story
4CaiSlow tutorial pacing, weaker recruits, restricted early travel

How the four routes were ranked

Each path is judged on four things, drawn from extended play on hard mode. The order below reflects how those factors balance out across a full run.

  • Narrative weight and how much the route reveals about Dagda’s wider story.
  • The strength and recruitment cost of the units you can field.
  • Combat balance, pacing, and late-game viability.
  • The path-specific mechanic and how useful it is in practice.

Level-up gains are random, so any single unit can outperform or fall short of its reputation in one run. The placements describe expected value, not a guaranteed outcome.

Dietrich’s route (1st place)

Dietrich’s route feels like an unconventional tabletop party, with outcasts forming a found family. A Fódlan native descended from Lamine of the Ten Elites, he fights with the Hero’s Relic sword Answerer. His companions set the group’s tone: Esmeralda, an armored knight targeted for her crest; Fabio, an Agarthan shaman who sees humans as beasts; and Mikaela.

In Part 1, no other unit matches Dietrich in battle. His enormous critical rate, strong avoid, self-healing, and Answerer’s Cry reach let him handle maps almost solo. His growths outpace the other three lords: Dex and Charm grow by 60%, while HP, Speed, and Luck each grow by 50%. Murderous Intent adds Crit+5 if he initiates, while Bestial Impulse builds Crit+2 after each battle until he lands a critical. Fabio, Esmeralda, and Mikaela are part of the starting group; the recruitment tutorial brings in Yang Jie.

The friction sits in the grind. Renown requirements run very high, several exclusive recruits are locked behind strict windows, and the Answerer’s Cry loop gets repetitive. Gates, for example, can only be recruited on a single day at the end of Chapter 9.

Theodora’s route (2nd place)

Theodora, Queen of Saramis, is the lord most closely tied to the main plot. Since she takes the lead in Part 2, beginning with her route makes the broader story’s direction easiest to follow. The cost is a slower opening: early chapters devote plenty of time to exposition cutscenes, and Chapter 4 runs longer than any other Part 1 chapter.

Her supporting cast is a highlight, with Bonaventure and Tobias standing out, alongside Lilian and Lysander, a speed-stealing cavalry unit with high avoid. Theodora herself is the most durable lord, posting a 70% HP growth, the highest of any Part 1 character, plus 50% Strength. Royal Resolve halves incoming damage on a 30% trigger, and Direct Hit adds 10 damage to her Blaze Arts on the same odds.

Two systems define the route. Deploy to Search lets you send recruited squads out to gather crafting and upgrade materials without repeating dungeons. Battalion recruitment in cities unlocks gambits that boost unit stats and apply battlefield control, such as Adept Archers pinning enemies in place. Her path also has some of the lowest recruitment gates in the game, with Noctula, Zarcone, and Sirocco all reachable at Support 1 and single-digit Renown.

Leda’s route (3rd place)

Leda is the last survivor of House Cohendia, driven by revenge against those who destroyed her home. Her story is tightly focused on that personal arc rather than the wider world plot, which keeps it well paced but limits how much it reveals. What sets the route apart is the units you get for free.

This path hands you the statistically strongest starting roster in the game. Sirocco is a high-dodge tank whose Wind’s Caprice+ rolls random avoid bonuses and whose Goddess’s Favor restores 5 HP after every combat. Buccar brings armored movement, Mu fills whatever physical role is missing, and Olympia pairs a 50% Magic growth with Competitive Zeal for crit and Nosferatu self-healing.

With a 65% Speed growth, Leda outpaces every other lord. When she initiates, Blindside has a 5% chance to prevent her target from countering. Her signature Dancing mechanic unlocks the Dancer class, which uses swords and bows and receives better stat gains, although dancing with people in settlements feels awkward. Her route also awards Renown more quickly than the others, making its recruits cheaper still.

Cai’s route (4th place)

Cai is the designated tutorial path, which shapes both its strengths and its problems. The story works as a classic JRPG opening, following a young villager who enters Dagsion’s tournament to save his father, and it explains how Dagda’s pantheon and laws work. The pacing is the slowest of the four, and travel is restricted because carriages are not available until Chapter 7.

Cai has the most balanced stat distribution among the lords, with each stat ranging from 35% to 45%; his Strength and Magic scaling are both 45%. Brio gives him Mov+1, while Flamekeeper shields him and nearby allies from Underworld Flames.

The roster is where this route falls behind. Peter has low Strength and can drop to 0 damage later on. Tialla is squishy with low Defense and a personal skill, Tactician’s Wit, that does not fit her. Ultand’s stats scatter across every attribute, and Guzran lacks support conversations with the rest of Cai’s crew despite strong raw growths.

Some recruits are gated behind steep requirements. Goliath needs hard-to-acquire Giant’s Meat and Support Level 3 to join, which makes him easy to miss on a first run.

Cai’s route alone lets you capture mounts. Tameable animals include the standout Red Meganius found in Axion Gorge; you can also grow berries and gather additional ones to trade with the Vandahl Trading Co. These features make each cavalry recruit on the route more valuable, but the weaker cast and slower opening still hold it back.

The ranking rewards raw power and plot payoff, which is why Dietrich and Theodora sit at the top. For a first-time player, though, the order you play them in can differ from the quality order. Cai eases newcomers in, and Theodora sets up Part 2, so a weaker route early is not automatically the wrong starting choice.
