Faebud is a Wondrous scroom you catch right at the start of SCROOMS, in Songkeeper’s Grove. Its Index card is headed “Wondrous Scroom” and carries the flavour line “Not quite a fairy, but don’t tell him that!” You will want it for Luca, who asks for one in his quest.
Quick answer: Equip an instrument in hotbar slot 1, then play in the grassy area near Songkeeper’s Grove’s spawn signpost. Faebud responds within 37.5 Hz – 62.5 Hz. The game determines which scroom appears, so continue playing until you get a Faebud.
Where to catch Faebud in Songkeeper’s Grove

Catch it in Songkeeper’s Grove, the starting area. Look for it on the grass around the spawn signpost in Songkeeper’s Grove. Before playing, place an instrument in hotbar slot 1; the Tamer’s Guitar is suitable.
On the Songkeeper’s Grove page of your Index, Faebud sits as card number 14 of 15 (the Index opens on hotbar slot 3). That page holds three Wondrous cards in total; the other two stay as silhouettes until you catch them. Before your first Faebud, its own card shows as a black “???” silhouette that already lists the rarity and the frequency range, so you know what you are hunting for.

Every scroom is caught the same way, through the tune-and-hold minigame. You cannot pick which scroom responds, so the goal is to run the catch cleanly and repeat until a Faebud appears.

If a different scroom keeps answering, just start another song in the same spot. Keep the scroom inside the sliding catch zone until the bar beneath the track is full.
Faebud rarity and how often it appears

Faebud is a Wondrous scroom, the second-rarest tier in the game. SCROOMS ranks its rarities from most to least common as Common, Uncommon, Rare, Wondrous, Fabled.
In a count of 106 catches at the grassy patch by the spawn signpost, 2 were Faebuds, which is 1.9%. You may need to catch plenty of other scrooms before Faebud appears. The game does not disclose Faebud’s actual odds or whether the instrument, weather, or time of day affects them.
Faebud frequency range

Faebud’s card also tracks Stats (Highest Frequency and Date caught) and Tones (Melodic, Harmonic and Resonant, each marked with a catch date or left as Uncaught). What a higher frequency is worth, and its sell price in Chimes, are not shown.
Giving Faebud to Luca for “Are fairies real?”

In Songkeeper’s Grove, the quest “Are fairies real?” requires you to obtain a Faebud. Luca’s journal entry says he hopes to see a fairy, and the task is to give him a Faebud. Give Luca a Faebud to complete the objective.
Confirming the catch worked
You know a Faebud landed when the “You caught: Faebud!” message shows with its frequency. The Faebud’s card in the Index also flips from the “???” silhouette to its full entry with model, flavour line and stats filled in.
