Esmeralda arrives with heavy Strength and Defense, strong spear and axe proficiency, and a middling Speed growth that shapes almost every decision about her. The build that squeezes the most out of her keeps her on spears, puts her in the air for mobility, and uses throwing arts so she can hit hard from a safe range while still tanking enemy phase.

Quick answer: Train Esmeralda as a spear-throwing flier along Soldier → Armored Knight → Dragoon → Celestial Trooper (or Bau Lord), and build her abilities around Throwing Arm+ and Great Counter.

Esmeralda’s growth rates and why spears and armor fit

Her personal ability, Brawn, cuts the weight of her equipment to 80 percent, which matters a lot for a unit whose Speed is her weakest offensive stat. Lighter gear means she avoids being doubled more often and can still double slower enemies. Her favored skills are Spear, Axe, and Heavy Armor, so pushing her toward spear-wielding, armored, and mounted classes keeps her skill experience flowing.

Strength and Defense are her clear strengths, HP is solid, and Resistance is the stat to watch. That profile points to a durable physical attacker, and the Master-tier picks below exist partly to patch her lower Resistance and Speed.

Best class progression for Esmeralda

Beginner tier: Soldier

Start in Soldier, a 100 percent pass at the Beginner exam. It gives her basic spear proficiency and shield defense, which lines up with where she is going. Stay long enough to pick up the class mastery before moving on.

Specialty tier: Armored Knight

Armored Knight adds early bulk and, more importantly, the Great Counter ability, which grants +3 Atk when a foe attacks first. That turns her enemy phase into extra damage on top of her natural tankiness. Wing Soldier and Brigand are reasonable secondary picks if you want flight ranks or axe practice sooner, but Armored Knight is the cleanest fit here.

Advanced tier: Dragoon

Dragoon mounts her on a bau and sends her into the air. The class carries strong combat growths and excellent mobility, letting her fly over obstacles and terrain that bog down infantry and cavalry. It also provides Besieger, which grants +20 Hit when the target is sitting on favorable terrain such as cover. At level 43 in this class she reaches 33 Strength and 34 Defense, with flight filling in for her limited ground reach.

Master tier: Celestial Trooper or Bau Lord

Both Master-tier flying options keep her in the air and are 32 percent passes at the exam. Celestial Trooper is the pick if you want to shore up her Resistance and add follow-up attacks, since it is a highly mobile pegasus knight with magic resistance. Bau Lord is the more aggressive choice, granting an extra +4 attack when she is positioned on terrain enemies cannot reach. Pick Celestial Trooper to cover her weaker defensive stat, or Bau Lord to maximize offense.

Spear combat arts to prioritize

Her throwing arts are what make the flier build work, letting her deal damage at range 2 without taking a counter. Focused Throw+ is the cheap, reliable option, Yawning Throw is the heavy hitter, and Double Throw rolls the dice for two strikes at a steep accuracy cost.

Combat artCostRangeEffect
Tempest Spear+21Mt +4, Hit +15
Focused Throw+22Mt +3, Hit +20
Double Throw52Strikes twice, Hit −30
Yawning Throw72Mt +10, Hit +10

The throwing arts only work with spears that already have 1–2 range, so keep a Javelin or her relic equipped when you plan to use them.

Abilities to equip

The ability loadout stacks accuracy and damage onto her thrown spears while keeping her enemy phase dangerous.

  • Throwing Arm+ — grants Hit +20 and Atk +4 when throwing a spear.
  • Besieger — Hit +20 when the foe is on favorable terrain.
  • Great Counter — Atk +3 when the foe attacks first.
  • Spears Lv. 4 — Hit and Avo +7 while holding a spear.
  • Defense Basics — Def +1.

Throwing Arm+ and Spears Lv. 4 fix the accuracy problems that would otherwise plague Double Throw, while Great Counter and Defense Basics reinforce the tanky enemy-phase role she naturally falls into.

Carry a spread that covers direct hits, ranged throws, and effective damage against the enemy types that give fliers trouble. Grasitha is her personal Hero’s Relic, inherited from Cetus the Sea Tyrant, and it unlocks the Leave No Dust combat art.

Ridersbane+1161Effective vs cavalry

Javelin+151–2Standard ranged throw

The low-weight Bronze Spear pairs with Brawn to help her double, the Javelin covers safe chip damage, and Hammer and Ridersbane let her delete armored knights and mounted units. Keep a Concoction on hand for 40 HP of healing when she stays on the front line too long.

Played this way, Esmeralda becomes a flier who throws spears from safety, soaks hits with her Strength and Defense, and punishes anything that attacks her first. If a map leans heavily on magic, Celestial Trooper’s Resistance is the safer Master choice; if you want raw kill pressure from the air, Bau Lord’s terrain bonus pushes her damage higher.
