The gambling dens scattered across Pywel let you bet Silver against NPCs in Duo and Five-Card, and those NPCs do not always play straight. When a dealer cheats, you can call them out, strip them of their pot, and walk away richer. The trick is knowing exactly what an honest draw looks like versus a rigged one, because a wrong accusation carries a real penalty.
Quick answer: Watch the dealer’s drawing hand. Elbow raised and sticks pulled from the top of the pile is a clean deal. Elbow tucked below the cup, thumb up, hand grabbing from the side means they are cheating — accuse them immediately.

The one tell that exposes a cheater
Everything comes down to the dealing animation. When an NPC deals the sticks, the game changes how their arm and hand move depending on whether the draw is honest. The sticks themselves and the final result tell you nothing, so keep your camera on the dealer’s arm instead of your own cards during the deal.
| Body part | Honest draw | Cheating draw |
|---|---|---|
| Palm | Facing outward | Facing inward |
| Thumb | Pointing down | Pointing up |
| Elbow | Level with the chest, above the cup rim | Below chest level, tucked under the rim |
| Grab point | Top of the stick pile | Side of the pile |
If you only remember one thing, remember the thumb. Thumb down is a normal pick from the top. Thumb up, often paired with a tight fist-style grip, means the dealer is sliding a stick out of their sleeve. The motion can also look slightly stiff compared to a natural deal, which is another clue once your eye is trained.

The moment you spot the tucked-elbow, thumb-up animation, an Accuse prompt appears. You only have a short window to act while the dealer is still drawing or just after the stick is placed. Miss it and the cheater gets away with it for the rest of the round. You can call out another player at any point during a Duo match, so stay ready.
When you make the right call, the match enforcer walks up to the table. The cheater loses the hand, forfeits their Silver, and is kicked out of the den. Everyone still seated splits the pot evenly. If no other players remain, you collect the whole pot. In Duo, each successful catch awards 100 Silver, and you can keep playing.
At the 300 Silver Duo table in Tommaso, in the Tashkalp region, three NPCs join you when the table is full. Catch each one cheating during a match and you can earn about 900 Silver without winning a hand. The dens are therefore among the most dependable ways to make money early in the game.
Manually save outside the den before taking a seat. If you call at the wrong time or the table fails to pay you, reload the save and try again without losing Silver.

The penalty for a wrong accusation
If you accuse a player who was playing honestly, you face the penalty instead. You lose all the Silver you wagered on that match and are removed from the game. You will also be unable to enter the den for a while.
The restriction runs for one in-game day, or about two hours in real time. Rest for 12 hours in a bed or at a bonfire to reduce that period by half. With that penalty in mind, accuse only after clearly seeing the thumb turn upward and the elbow drop. Don’t guess.
Reading cheaters in Five-Card
Five-Card, found in the village of Beighen with a 150 Silver buy-in, uses the exact same cheating animation as Duo. The only difference is speed: dealers move slightly faster here, so the elbow tuck is harder to catch. Keep your eyes locked on the hand and thumb through the whole deal.
There is another detail to watch at these tables: NPCs sometimes signal one another discreetly before making a large bet. If a player looks at another and nods right before raising, one of them is very likely holding a tucked stick. Keep an eye on betting patterns as well as physical tells. A player making a forceful raise when you never saw them draw honestly deserves close attention on the next deal.

Where to practice and confirm it works
Duo first appears in the city of Hernand, where the buy-in is only 15 Silver. That low stake makes it the right place to learn the tell before risking real money. Once you can spot the thumb reliably, move up to the 300 Silver Tommaso table for the bigger pots.
- Hernand — Duo, 15 Silver, the earliest den in the campaign.
- Beighen — Five-Card, 150 Silver, the only Five-Card table.
- Tommaso — Duo, 300 Silver, the highest-stakes Duo matches, in the Tashkalp area.
You know your call landed when the match enforcer steps in, breaks the cheater’s hand, and removes them from the table. The betting UI then updates with your increased Silver total as their pot is distributed. If the prompt never appeared or you were ejected instead, the draw you called was a clean one — reload your manual save and watch the thumb more carefully on the next deal.
